Dirus
Hi there.Pardon me if there is a misunderstanding, I'll try and explain it as best as i can. Feel free to move this isn't the right place to post this too.I'm planning to convert some PAGKs painted up in the same color scheme as my DIY chapter but still take them as Grey Knight allies. Is it okay for me to do so? Is it frowned upon?I'm not using a proxy or anything, they'll still have halberds, falchions, etc. just without the Grey Knight iconography. GodEmperorOfMankind
Go for it, they're your models! if you're using the actual models just in a different colour scheme then I ca't see why anyone would complain Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271001-using-counts-as-models/#findComment-3300880 Share on other sites

lothlorienmoon
Proxy models/counts-as are generally "Hey, this may look like a necron, but it's actually my chaplin." If you can clearly tell that the model is a grey knight, who just happens to be bright pink, well it's still a grey knight. Otherwise DIY chapters would all be unusable because they aren't painted like the models on the box. Dirus
That's very true.In my case anyways, I'm taking Grey Knights as allies. They're just painted with the same scheme as my DIY chapter. GodEmperorOfMankind
I would say it's always worth mentioning which units are allies to your opponent beforehand just as a matter of courtesy as they may not notice the difference in models and it could be confusing when you suddenly start using GK rules on your SM units. Dirus
Of course, especially since i plan on painting my Grey Knight allies as my DIY chapter. It'd cause a lot of confusion if i don't specify beforehand. GhostLegion
while in full agreement with the above that youre fine doing this, as an oppoent I wouldnt mind additional indicators to identify a different force. not so much that i would require them...just a desire on my part. really ive seen this as simple as a different color ring on the base of the model to signify a secondary force...or something as complex as different paint scheming on the shoulders while maintaining the uniform scheme for the force itself. again, this is more a preference. in all honesty, you should have no problem with any opponent here as youre using grey knight models for grey knight allies...its not like youre using goblins/gretch to be space marines here. Dirus
Thanks for the great advice.I'll be sure to put a marker of sorts to differentiate which ones are the GK and which are the SM. I'll probably make the GKs the 1st company veterans so they'll get a different paint scheme from the regulars. Disruptor_fe404
Proxy models/counts-as are generally "Hey, this may look like a necron, but it's actually my chaplin." Just a nitpick, the quoted is proxying and is most definitely not counts-as. There is a distinction between the two. The more you know! Xenith
The more you know! Indeed. And in this particular case, having Grey Knight models used as Grey Knight allies is neither a proxy, or a counts as. ASSASSINAWOKEN
I have continuously used an older Emperor's Champion model as a librarian. No one will care and most likely will want to just get a game started. Just make sure you let your opponent know before hand.
