Where'd All The Claws Go?

So I was looking to repurpose this squad

(currently painted as Consecrators) to my Crusade Era DA force, but have found there to be no option outside of TDA armour for twin Lightning Claws.

Have I missed something, or is this an oversight in the book?

Cheers,

Legion command squad?

Depending on how you read the phrase "any member..may exchange their chainsword/combat blade or bolt pistol for one of the following:"

You could swap each for a lightning claw at 15pts

Nope as that would mean that either the chainsword or bolt pistol could be replaced with a lightning claw not both.

You replace your bolt pistol for one lightning claw, and then replace your ccw for one lightning claw. Unless, of course, you're going to argue that no Marine codex has allowed for their HQ units to have two lightning claws for the last few books. After all, Codex: Space Marines doesn't give an option for "a pair of lightning claws", neither does the Chaos, Blood Angels, or Dark Angels books. What they do give is the option to replace your weapons for a selection on a provided list, with nothing saying you cannot pick the same item twice.

So, when I'm told I can replace my bolt pistol for x, y or z, and my ccw for x, y or z, that means I can take two of x, as absolutely nothing says I can't.

...Hang on, I just saw the part where it says a command squad member can replace the bolt pistol or combat blade, not bolt pistol and/or combat blade. Ok, it seems you're correct, Ventris. Apologies.

No worries, the wording is a bit odd. FW clarified that the Legion Praetor and Centurion can exchange their bolt pistol AND CCW for the same weapon but didn't say the same for every entry. Common sense would dictate that all other entries like that would follow the same principle, but as FW has yet to confirm it then its really up to what your opponents are okay with.

Aye Capn, I was referring to the praetor FAQ when I made my comment.

For an extra 5pts per model you can keep those combat shields as well smile.png

But thats the problem it only reffers to the Praetor and Centurion, and not any other unit that has that wording. Unless someone with facebook can ask FW to confirm if all of those sections can be replaced with 'and' rather than 'or'.

I don't see the difference, the Praetor listing has the same wording and this has been clarified, in addition  'Or' is true if either or both conditions is true, and why can you not select the option more than once.

The discussion in this link RE the praetor stands just the same way

But the FAQ only states that the Praetor/Centurion can swap either weapons, they did not expand it to cover all uses of that particular phrase. I agree with you that if they say its ok for one it should make sense to cover it for the rest but then the argument could be that the Centurion and Praetor are some of the best in the Legion and are allowed access to such gear where-as a normal line-sergeant or veteran might not.

It all really matters on who you play, some people may allow this to be done as they are the cleaver sort with common sense then staunch rule-abiding people might not and say that the FAQ and HH book do not allow this to be done.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'm typically a rule of cool guy who plays with friends very occasionally. I like to make "legal" lists but I'm not going to gey hung up on it. Should I ever play these guys I'll play them as vets and pay the cost of the upgrade.

Cheers,

Jono
