First tournament

I just finished my first tournament with my Space Wolves. It was at the local gaming club and we were 10 ppl. Three matches each. These were my second, third and fourth games in sixth ed. 1750 points with no restrictions. FW allowed.

I had to take pretty mutch all I have painted and borrowed 2 tanks from a friend so I cant say my list was optimized or anything but not bad either.

I had:

2 Rune Priests

1 Wolf Priest with Jump Pack

3 Grey Hunter packs with a WGPL in each making them 10 man total. 2 had Rhino transports and one was using their legs to get to the enemy.

One had the joy of having a RP leading them to battle.

1 Unit of 8 Skyclaws that had that WP to keep them at bay.

1 Unit of Long Fangs with Missile Launchers who was joined by one of the RP´s. They had a lascannon RB that they never rode in.

1 Predator with Autocannon and HB

1 Whirlwind

And last but not least my trusted Dreadnought Tyr with a plasmacannon.

First game was against Tau with Eldar allies. Eldrad, Wraithlord, Eldar and Tau snipers and Railgun dudes omong other things. Mission was the Relic.

My plan was simple: drive up to the relic and block him with my Rhinos and then run to the hills with it. Eldrad proved to be a pain in the a** and I got off 2 powers total. Man of the hour was one of my WGPL that got charged by the wrathlord and as he saw his last member of his pack being smashed to a pulp got rather angry and used his powerfist to send the wraithlord to the eldar after life.

Skyclaws with the RP smashed face and took down an entire flank on their own. Game - Set - Match Space Wolves

Game two was against Nuns with guns. Kill points mission. They fielded 1 holy organ gun on a Rhino, 3 Maschocist engines, 2 small squads with Seraphim and some random squads that I dont know the name of. Round 1: I shoot and kill 2 engines and a few Sisters. I move up the middle to get into position to charge. Round 2: I kill some more Sisters with random fire. My Skyclaws take one flank. Sisters round 2: I unit comes in with a holy heavy flamer Rhino and the 2 units of Seraphim deep strike next to my GH squads who think they are dominating the midfield. I dont wanna go into any details but lets just say that after this there was a rather strong smell of burned fur when the smoke settled.

Game three I faced Elysian drop troops and the mission was the scouring. First turn..... Heloooooo? Come fight me silly guardsmen!

Round 2: deep striking units EVERYWERE! and 2 fliers. So mutch funky stuff on the board and I had no clue what they did. In all the chaos that happened his rocked artillery managed to kill off all but 3 guys in one of his own units in a unlucky scatter. Stuff died but the wolves was not defeted or broken. Now I finaly had some stuff to engage. Long story short my Razorback killed the really nasty flier that shot 20 or so shots / turn and that landed in the head of one of my skyclaws that once again had gone on a murderus rampage. The dented helmet of that unlucky sob will be displayed in the drinking hall back at the fang and songs will be sung in his honor. I won 7-1. His only point was first blood.

I took second place in the tournament behind a demon player. I am really pleased with this. I had as a personal goal to win one game and had no ambition of getting such a good result. My mvp's was without a doubt the Skyclaws.  The Whirlwind I borrowed did next to nothing.

This has made me motivated to go to more tournaments. They guys I played were really nice and even thou I got hammered by sisters it was a really fun game.

Thanks for reading my ramblings.

I'd love to hear more about your Skyclaw success. I love these guys but conventional tactics has us shying away from this unit.

What did they attack?

How did the fights go down?

How would you use them in future?

First of all I dont have that many games done in 6th so I am still figuring out my tactics. But generally I go in force with my Grey Hunters either in Rhinos or just run them towards that I wish do kill.

The three games I did I let the Skyclaws have the responsibility of one flank supported by somtething that could provide long range firepower. A dreadnought, longfangs or predator. We can say that the threat of the Grey Hunters are bigger then the Skyclaws so I force the opponent to engage them.

In the first game I took on a unit of Eldar Pathfinders. They broke and ran after I shot and flamed them and was never seen again. I followed up by charging a unit of 1012 Tau Firewarriors who stood no chance what so ever. The Skyclaws had taken a few casualtys so they numberd no more then 4-5 and the Wolf Priest but it was a slaugher.

Game two against the sisters I went toe to toe with a regular nun-squad and pretty mutch did the same thing as I did to the Firewarriors. The last nun broke and ran and was last seen passing southern Europe screaming on the top of her voice. They then took some heavy casualtys but still managed to jump another squad and was locked in combat with them as the game ended. I dont think I would have won that fight since I was outnumberd.

The third game was against the Elysian IG. I just jumped them up the middle hugging cower and by turn three they ripped throu the IG lines with a song and cheer on their lips.

I managed to catch the Manticore and slap a meltabomb on it but due to a less then great roll it just lost its heavy flamer and darted away. The game ended before I could finish the job. Had this game gone on for 2 more rounds I would have killed it and another unit of Guards that were trapped between the Skyclaws and a full pack of Grey Hunters.

I must say that I dont play on a competative level. I play for the fun of the game but for me the Skyclaws have worked really well. I will paint up the remaning 2 guys and field a full 10 man unit. I will skip buying the Motw and just take the power axe next time to save me some points. They are after all a little expensive.
