Brother Domitian
Greetings fellow brothers! I´m building up a World Eaters force right now, and looking for advice and opinions on the list. Any comments would be appreciated as I´m buying the units right now. The list as it stands: Legion Praetor (170) Rite of War: Orbital Assault+ - Pair of lightning claws, Iron halo, Jump packContemptor Dreadnought Talon (285) + - Kheres Pattern assault cannon, Dreadnought cc weapon, Heavy flamer + - DreadclawApothecarion Detachment (45) 1 Apothecari w. ChainswordLegion Tactical Squad (250)19 Space Marines- Legion Vexilla- Bolters+ Tactical Sergeant, BolterLegion Assault Squad (435)20 Assault Marine- Chainswords- 3 x Power weapon+ Assault Sergeant, Bolt pistol, Chainsword, Melta-bombsLegion Tactical Support Squad (150)6 Space Marines- Flamer+ Legion Sergeant, Bolt pistol, Chainsword,+ - Drop PodLegion Tactical Support Squad (195)5 Space Marines- Melta gun+ Legion Sergeant, Bolt pistol, Chainsword+ - Drop PodLegion Tactical Squad (205)10 Space Marines- Legion Vexilla- Nuncio Vox- Bolters+ Tactical Sergeant w. Bolter+ - Drop PodStorm Eagle (265)- Twin-linked multi-melta- Twin-linked lascannon2000 The praetor joins the the assault squad. During deployment they keep out of sight and use cover as best as they can to reach the enemy. The first wave of Pods forms a bridgehead and consists of the 10 man Tac squad and the Support Squad with flamers. They built up pressure (Fury of the Legion) and keep the enemy occupied until reinforcements arrive. Hopefully the nuncio vox survives long enough to be used as a beacon for the remaining Pod with the Support Squad and the deep striking Contemptor. If not, scattering may be limited by parking the remaining Pods in between the landed Pods. The 19 man Tac Squad rides with the Apothecari in the Storm Eagle who will hopefully arrive turn two and allow me to bolster my bridgehead. The assault squad then picks a target. Problems I see: Shortage on ant- tank weapons - I can only muster a Support Squad with 5 Melters and the Storm Eagle to engage enemy Contemptors, dreads and high value tanks like Spartans and Land Raiders. Also got no anti-air except for the Storm Eagle. The initial bridgehead is rather small, but I´m limited by the space available in Drop Pods I hope to avoid heavy artillery fire and heavy weapons coming my way by dropping close to the enemy lines and hope I can pick my fights. Feedback is appreciated! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271058-2000-world-eaters-deep-strikers/ Share on other sites
Cmdr Shepard
I was thinking about an Orbital Assault army for my Angron led army so I'm very interesting in your own list. For the anti-contemptor issues you can rely on melta bombs. You will lose several models if you fight against a dual DCCW but a couple of melta bombs should deal some damage. About the anti air: Stormeagle is a nice air superiority flyer. I was thinking about fielding two of them in a SoH I'm planning to build (I'll post the list soon ;) ). Personally I was inclined toward armoured ceramite and missile launcher. You wouldn't encounter a lot of flyer spam lists in HH. However I suppose your plan would be to disembark from the drop pods open fire on your chosen target and charge next turn so you could ignore most of the enemy flyers. The problems with drop pod lists are: 1. You half army will get the attentions of the enemy entire army (as you already mentioned it) 2. If the enemy has interceptor weapons or even heavy weapons to fire on your pods they could earn first blood with ease. Just my opinion, though. Brother Domitian
Thanks for the feedback so far Shepard! I´ve been thinking this list trough and wasn´t happy with it, as it takes the passengers of my two flyers to long to actually do anything (start killing things on turn 3 at best). So I reconsidered and got inspired by a fellow world eater and his drop pod list. So here is the new list, still deep striking, but this time nearly a drop pod only list: Legion Praetor (joins Command Squad) Rite of War: Orbital Assault + - Pair of lightning claws - Iron halo - - - > 150 P Legion Command Squad4 Chosen - Legion Standard Bearer - 4 x Power weapon + - Drop Pod - - - > 195 P 1x Apothecarion Detachment (joins Command Squad) + - Chainaxe - Artificer armour - - - > 55 P Legion Destroyer Squad 10 Destroyer Marines - Melta bombs - 2 x Missile launcher (rad) - Chainswords + Destroyer Sergeant - Chainsword - Artificer armour - 3 x Phosphex bomb + - Drop Pod - - - > 400 P Legion Assault Squad 20 Assault Marine - Chainswords - 4 x Power weapon + Assault Sergeant - Bolt pistol - Chainsword - - - > 440 P Legion Tactical Squad 10 Space Marines - Legion Vexilla - Nuncio Vox - Bolters - Additional chainsaxes + Tactical Sergeant - Bolter - Melta-bombs + - Drop Pod - - - > 212 P Legion Tactical Squad 10 Space Marines - Legion Vexilla - Bolters - Additional chainsaxes + Tactical Sergeant - Bolter - Melta-bombs + - Drop Pod - - - > 202 P Legion Tactical Support Squad 6 Space Marines - Flamer + Legion Sergeant - Bolt pistol - Chainsword + - Drop Pod - - - > 150 P Legion Tactical Support Squad 5 Space Marines - Melta gun + Legion Sergeant - Bolt pistol - Chainsword + - Drop Pod - - - > 195 P TOTAL : 1999 Tactic is roughly the same: Assault Squad stays in cover during deployment and acts as a hammer to the anvil my 3 pods form in turn one. At least one tac squad will pod on turn one and one support squad (depending on targets the flamer or melta squad). The third pod is either the second tac squad or the destroyer squad. In the second turn the remaining units get into position and the comand squad bolsters the cc in turn 3. C&C are appreciated! depthcharge12
I was thinking along similiar lines to your force too like cmdr Shepard but he's the Alpharius to my Omegon ;) Jokes aside this revised list is great! You can definitely avoid ordnance and flyers if you park in front of your enemy. I would also suggest using the multiple drop pods as a wall to block LoS for your enemy drawing a bead on your assaulters. Your plan is very ballsy and I like it as it reflects a WE assault. Just remember that you can't use fury when you drop in though as moving or deep striking prevents them from using fury. I would say that adding additional chainaxes was a great idea too. ...or were they chainsaxes? I didn't know that you were fielding the fabled WEs marching jazz band of doom? XD Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271058-2000-world-eaters-deep-strikers/#findComment-3364107 Share on other sites

XD Thanks for the kind words! Yes, the famous Angron quartet, now playing on a battlefield near you! Lol, I like that typo ;) Thank you for clarifying the Fury rule, I admit I wasn´t aware. Hopefully there will still be enemies to shoot once the second wave drops in ;) What do you guys think about anti-tank capability? I feel like I´m a bit light on that... hisdudeness
I believe you are encountering the primary limitation of the full assault list, especially at 2000 points. Mobility and anti-tank do not seem to be part of a heresy force. The idea is to get in to HtH ASAP to negate the need for anti-tank. Melta on your assault squads will deal with dreads. As others have said, I wouldn't worry too much about air at the point level you are looking at. Brother Domitian
Thanks for that! I´ll try and playtest it this week, see how it works against my mate´s Iron Warriors. He used to castle them, bring at least two Medusas to the fight (nasty with Siegebreaker and Phosphex) and hide behind fortifications like a true Iron Warrior. If I can clear him out, this list might be viable. I´ll let you guys know how it went...
