Sangunary Guard getting better

IK Viper

With the rise of the Hell Drake FAQ making them an absolute terror on Power Armor, I have started looking into ways of minimizing this threat since alost all the ppl in my local play group play chaos sm/ chaos daemons.  The Flamers are just so OP that there is little a PA army can do, sorry guys GW has simply not given us the tools to effectively compete against that and are trying to force us to buy new stuff..   But the Drakes atleast are limited to AP3  as such I think that Sanguinary Guard and Dante wing has just become a much more viable option then the jumper wing.  I am looking at ways to counter the 3 Hell Drake list that is fast becoming the standard Chaos list at my local store, to this end I am looking at runnig Dante Wing with a backfield of AV 13 fire power, supported by 2 Stormravens.  I truly feel that this meta change may make my favorite unit in the game viable again, any thoughts?

Unless you're going with S8+ and AP 2, the Sanguinary Guard have only gotten stronger in this edition. FnP works almost everytime now, and Helldrakes are not indestructable, especially with Stormravens.

Dante is not the best choice in this edition, especially with the crappy axe. The only things he brings to the field is Hit and Run, scatter-free deepstrike and Sanguinary Guard as troops. So he's the man when you're going for a Sanguinary Guard list, but not when you want resilience in combat.

I'd go with a mixed list, including Sanguinary Guard. Stormravens are essential, we've got the best flyer in the game in my opinion. We've got the amount of shots to bring down about everything in the game, even two helldrakes. A 5++ invul isn't very good, especially against the anti-armour capacity of the Stormraven itself. Bring two, and you're set.

I'd support Sanguinary Guard with Sanguinary Priests and Assault Squads, as well as long-range shooting such as Stormravens to take out enemy threats, just make sure you have support.

sang is meh . chaos runs a lot of plasma too , they will die like flies.

take IG ally . a nice big blob of IG with some HQs to tank flamers and 2-3 LR+ venedettas in support will work a lot better then runing dante and his guard.

Or take a guard 10 man psyker battle squad cast weaken resolve then shoot  the primaris psychic shriek from any JP BA libby nearby it works nicely on demons squads and MC's equally. On average inflicts 4-5 wounds but can go to 12 quite easily.

Ravens are always good

Seems like everybody in my area has an Aegis Defense line with Quad Guns. The only people who don't have one are people who just don't face flyers. I believe it is a better investment of points than Dante and Sanguinary Guard.

Others have pointed out alternatives that may fare better. I'm unclear on whether the OP doesn't want to buy a quad gun and wants an alternative he already owns.

Good luck.

I've played against Quad guns, either surrounded by 30-men blobs of guardsmen or Space Wolves Grey Hunters, and they're quite ineffective against the Blood Angels Flyer.  Against AV11, they're OK, but not really superior. I feel that we have enough anti-air power with the Stormraven itself.

Other than that, Quad guns can easily be tied up by using Vanguard Veterans. A lot of people use(d) them, and I think they've still got their place. Even if that means to send them after the guys guarding a Quad gun. It might give you a turn or two of air superiority!

You can build to ignore Heldrakes with a fast assault list. The Heldrakes don't come on until turn 2 at the earliest, giving you 1-2 turns+ of movement to get into your opponents deployment zone and assault. You also have some defense with FNP, and if your opponent is running triple Drakes, there going to have less ground troops than you.
