N777ATH
Hi Guys, I'm a new Space Wolf player after using Grey Knights since they came out. My question is at what point do you have to declare you are activating the Wolf Standard? Someone you told me you have to declare it in your shooting phase as the rules for it say something about being active in the "next" assault phase. But if that's the case and declare it your opponent may not charge you and it's been wasted. Can you help guys? Reichfaust
It's not specified when you actually declare it; I have always declared it at the beginning of the assault phase, which I think is pretty standard. Grey Mage
No, you have to declare it before the assault phase starts, because it activates in "the next assault phase" this is important, because it can change whether or not your opponent assaults you, or gods forbid you fail your charge roll. You can however wait until the end of your opponents shooting phase, then declare it. N777ATH
Ah right, so even on here there is confusion about it lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271279-wolf-standard-question/#findComment-3304673 Share on other sites
dswanick
Ah right, so even on here there is confusion about it lol Not really : "Once per game, a unit that includes a wolf standard may call upon the power of the wolf. For the duration of the next Assault Phase, all models in that unit may", C:SW, pg.62. If you wait until an Assault phase to declare it's use, it won't take affect until the next Assault phase. Declare it in a Shooting phase, and you're all set. N777ATH
So you can only use it before your own assault phase? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271279-wolf-standard-question/#findComment-3304827 Share on other sites
Squark
No, you can also use it before your opponent's assault phase (So you get it when the squad gets charged) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271279-wolf-standard-question/#findComment-3304833 Share on other sites
kenzman
can you use it to reroll 1's on the assault move? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271279-wolf-standard-question/#findComment-3305063 Share on other sites
dswanick
can you use it to reroll 1's on the assault move? Probably not, based on this C:SW FAQ answer: "Q: Does a Wolf Standard allow Leadership test results to be re-rolled? (p62) A: No." Most likely because you can't roll a "1" on 2d6 (2-12). The same would apply for the Assault range roll. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271279-wolf-standard-question/#findComment-3305084 Share on other sites
Ghostwolfalpha
As far as I know, you can reroll all rolls of a 1 during that assault phase. If you have to declare it before the assault phase, then the wolf standard just lost some usefulness. I think it needs an errata to be for the remainder of the assault phase. I always declared it before anything happens in the assault phase. new_pollution
From the 5th edition FAQ: Q. Does a Wolf Standard allow Leadership test results to be re-rolled? (p62) A. No, as it is impossible to roll a ʻ1ʼ on 2D6 – when making a 2D6 result you must count both dice as a single roll, not address them individually. I don't play 6th Edition yet or own the BRB, but as far as I'm aware the assault move is 2d6 added together, thus a roll of '1' is still impossible. However, if the roll was like the move through cover roll where you roll 1 d6 twice and picked the highest result you could reroll the 1's there because they technically are 1's because they aren't added together. Unfortunately that roll is outside of the assault phase. However also from the 6th ed FAQ: Q: Does the Wolf Standard’s ability to re-roll any dicerolls of a1 apply for the duration of the entire Assault phase, and thus allow 1's to be re-rolled on Overwatch To Hit and To Wound rolls as well as in the Fight sub-phase? (p62) A: Yes That might be of interest to you. edit: formatting.
