I am new to the warhammer universe and the game. I've decided to play space wolves, I've created a 1k point army to start off with buying the battle fore and a wolf pack. My question is about dedicated transport, if I 36 troops do I have to have enough transport for everyone or no? I was going to get two rhinos and have the drop pod as well. The army was going to be 20 grey hunters 10 long fangs 5 scouts and a rune priest. So would I have to add more troop transport? And my friend who is also getting into the game as a incentive to stop dragging my feet to commit o playing bought me Njal Stormcaller and since he is way too many points I didn't want to use him. Can I use as my rune priest or do I have to just scrap using him?

Heya; Transports are totally optional. it's up to you if you want your units to progress on foot. Also remember that close combat troops in a rhino or razorback is a trade-off as they cannot assault the turn they disembark.

For this edition of the game (6th),generally drop pod deployment is more preferred for Space Wolves, due to some changes they made to transport vehicles.

If you do want a rhino, DO NOT PURCHASE ONE. Buy a razorback instead. The chassis are the same, but for like $5 more you get the razorback sprue which you can magnetize and switch the vehicle between razorback and rhino. Other kits that have the rhino chassis are predator, whirlwind, and vindicator, should you prefer those instead.

Njal doesn't have to stay Njal. You can use him as a generic Rune Priest.

Welcome to the game and to B&C. You've made the right choice.

Okay so do I really even need a transport at all? I'm really just starting out. I'm planning on buying the Wolff battle force and a wolf pack. Should I skip the rhinos all together and focus on something else? I'm mainly going to be playing with my friend who picked up necron

Skip the rhinos for now. Necrontyr rip vehicles apart for breakfast- youll get almost no use out of them. Get the basic rules and maneuvers down first, then look into the advanced things.

On top of the Battle Force Id say skip the wolf pack and get a tactical squad and a devastator squad. Why? Because by mix and matching the wolf bits you can get alot of wolfy space marines that look nice without dripping in bling that might end up looking ostentatious or be a pain in the arse to paint. You also get some nice choices of special weapons and an extra missile launcher youll likely want for your long fangs, and speaking of wich- the devastator box is the go-to point for heavy weapon options.

With 30 GHs, some scouts, some long fangs, and an HQ youll probly be running around 800pts. At that point its up to you to figure out what you want to do- some wolf gaurd would be fun, and flexable, as a choice. You could snag a couple landspeeders or some bikers to get some speed in your army. You might want to enjoy a small pack of thunderwolf cavalry for their CC abilities and speed.

My original thought was

1 Rune Priest 100 points

10 Grey Hunters 185 points

2 Plasma Guns, A standard and Mark of the Wulfen

10 Grey Hunters 195 Points

2 Melta Guns, Mark of the Wulfen

8 Long Fangs 200 points

4 Missle Launchers

2 Long Fang Leaders 60 points

2 Plasma Guns

5 Scouts 145 points

1 Melta gun, 2 plasma Pistol, 1 plasma gun, Mark of the wulfen

1 Drop Pod 35 Points

That was buying the battle force the wolf pack and some bits trying to keep the cost down as much as possible. I'm on a budget lol

All I can say is buy the standards for EVERY GH pack... no exceptions.  It is monstrously strong esp with some WGPLTDA.

And now that I think of it... just in case... Wolf Guard Pack Leader in Tactical Dreadnought Armour... WGPLTDA.  Build him with a bolter and axe if on a budget, combi plas and an axe if you want to splurge.

The Drop Pod is a good call- you dont have to use it agressively, and having the option to pop out and take out some killy artillery unit that would otherwise pound your forces is simply invaluable.

You can also deploy it empty to block line of sight.

They just arent as survivable as they used to be, and venerables simply are way to overpriced for their abilities. In an all DP force Im just not sure theres enough armor saturation to keep them alive, and they simply cant stand on their own like they used to. Its sad really.

I wouldnt take a lone dreadnaught just by himself. Id suggest 4 bloodclaw bikers instead, and give one a flamer- or three, one with a powerfist and one with a flamer, as you like, or 3 and an attack bike if you can find a good deal on it.

Now would I have to buy some like space wolves torso heads etc or can I use those as is?

Modeling is up to you. I just used regular SM bikers, and added a different helmet or shoulder pad here and there with the occasional chainsword.

I bought the dark vengeance bikes on eBay and used the normal bolt pistol torso and then used the torsos from the wolf box or tac marines. With a bit of effort you can then trim the plasma gun biker torso and stick it onto some legs so you're not a marine down too ;)

Oh and just cut or file the ravenwing markings off

edit: this cost me £17 for 6 bikes instead of £8 per bike (and the poses are cooler)
