Need vehicle urban camouflage help

Hey guys,

Just got the basic painting done on a Rhino and a Land Raider. Got a lot of work of course, until its ready but I wanted opinions.

Thoughts on the camo? Does it look decent? Is this a scheme that BA (even a successor Chapter) would use? Should I strip it and go more traditional? Having seen a lot of the products you folks put out, I really respect your opinions.

Well the bright red is a spray on primer. It is the base color of the entire army. Not sure if the tanks would tie in well with the rest of the army if they didnt have the red in it.

I guess I could add another layer of color to the camo, Have a dark or medium grey along with the red and black maybe. Hmmm. Off to MS paint to look at color combos.

Technically, using bright red as part of a camouflage scheme sorta defeats the purpose tongue.png

Hmmm... Not necessarily.

First, it all depends upon the environment in which the force is fighting. If red is a dominant color in the environment, then red camo makes perfect sense.

Second, there's camo intended to hide an item in the background, and camo that is intended to confuse the viewer's vision and senses, but not necessarily hide the item. Case in point, WWI-era naval "dazzle" camouflage. The general idea was, in a time when the best sighting and tracking mechanism was the Mk.I Eyeball, the camo scheme would make it difficult to take good aim in all the chaos of a battle. In the naval context, it was supposed to make it especially difficult for U-boats looking out at the world through the narrow field of a periscope.

I say: go with the red and black camo scheme. Given the strong WWI influences throughout WH40K, a "dazzle" scheme makes perfect sense. I was thinking of doing something similar on Imperial Fists assault squads and Rhinos in a siege-themed army: hard-edged yellow and black camo.

THANK YOU Styygens!!

I knew I had seen this kind of Camo before and it stuck with me. I was thinking it was from WWII and could not find an example of it. It never occurred to me to look at WWI. This was exactly the direction I was taking the vehicles.

Also, My tactical marines remind me a lot of Manchester United footballers, Wonder how much trouble I would be in if i called my Chapter the "Red Devils". (Watching the FA cup match between MU and Reading.

Blood Angels using camouflage I knew there was hope for you guys!

@ Jsmarriner: I really like the striking pattern you have used. That will look immense once it is finished. However please don't call your Chapter the Red Devils it would make me and thousands of others sick sick.gif

@: Swantoon: Great looking camo scheme, I like the additional use of grey too.

So I got a bit more work done on the Rhino. I have highlighted the edges. Which honestly wasnt easy since I had to highlight both the red and black on the same edge several times. I dont think it turned out to bad.

I also added a bit of Art on the top hatch. I like the way the skull turned out, hope you do too.

Still have a good bit of detailing to go before its done. But it is getting better.

Oh and before I get the comments about the Camo being rendered useless by the Art, I agree. But you know how soldiers are, they dont listen all the time. I should know, ive been one for 20 years now.
