Silly Idea?

So, I was looking at our "bring extra HQ" rules, and was thinking that a death star of Wolf Lord + WG Battle Leader might be an expensive, but amusing thing to field.

Each WGBL could take one or two fenrisians, the Lord could take two, and that would give the unit a bunch of ablative wounds as they go forward. Give each WGBL Runic armor, then mess around with cheaper upgrades to make sure everyone's a little different. I can see a S10 big blast really messing with that unit, however. If the lead character has the Saga of the Bear, they might be able to just absorb the worst of the damage or pass it off to the Fenrisians (since wounds would begin with the Wolf Lord in charge, and the Fenrisians could LOS him on a 2+, and even if it gets through it won't instagib him because of SOTB).

Anything the unit hits would be crushed. You could even get Saga of the Warrior Born on one of them to just make their melee attacks huge. The Wolf Lord can handle any character in a challenge, and the WGPL can intervene if it gets too hairy. Every model with a 2+, several with a 3+ invul... I think it could wreck face. Or, you know, be a complete disaster. What do you think?

Not sure how effective it would be on the table, but yeah, it works. It's even reasonably fluffy, given you can consider the Wolf Guard Battle Leader to be the Company Champion (Similar to sticking Logan and Arjac in the same unit. Or a Captain and the Company Champion in a command squad,of course).

The ideal, but highly expensive, version would probably be two Wolf Lords- 1 with Saga of the Bear and a storm shield/powerfist for challenges and tanking vindicator shots, the other with Saga of the Warrior Born, Wolf Claw+Powerfist+Belt of Russ, who slaughters the rest of the unit.

True, outside Apoc (At which points multiple Wolf Priests spearheading an attack by themselves simply because they're the only ones badass enough to pull it off becomes more reasonable). You could argue that whichever one of the Wolf Lord's isn't your Warlord is just the Company champion (And you're using him as a Wolf Lord so he can get Saga of the Bear, for example).

i did a similar list to this where i had a wolf lord, a battle leader and cannis wolfborn in a unit of thunderwolves. it was allot of fun, i pretty much put all my points into that unit and only had 2 units of fenrisian wolves as troops (due to cannis)

having a meat shield of 6 t5 fenrisian wolves because of the majority toughness rules is pretty epic

personally i think deathstars are allot of fun in friendly games, and you are either going to annihilate your enemy or die in a spectacular way which is a very wolf way to play

slightly off topic but regarding fun/silly deathstar ideas - although only available via Apoc - the March of The Ancients (4+ Dreads w/ 1+ Iron Priest/Techpriest/MoTF) headed by Bjorn and 3 Contemptors would be ungodly haha especially with an Iron Priest or two on Thunderwolves - non-apoc you could go Bjorn + 3 Contemptors all in Lucius Pods (if your locale allows FW) for 4 Dreads podding in, shooting and charging - the look on your opp's face would be priceless though the cost would be 800+ for that lot...

One set I might run is Divination RP, SoTH WP, 2 Wolf Lords in TDA (one PF/SS + Bear and one WC/PF + Warrior Born) put them into a small 'ish Wolf Guard Pack, give them a Crusader and turn up in your opp's half - an immense cost in points and major case of 'all eggs in one basket' but rock hard, carrying at least two Melee Specialists, various TDAWG loadouts, Preffered Enemy and whatever the RP conjures up - plus being able to fire the Hurricane Bolters, Machine Spirit the AC or MM AND charge the pack into the enemy lines...

not sure the Rune priest is needed in that list as the only power you would probably want from divination is he 4++ for the unit.  re-rolls to hit is nice but negated largely by the wolf priest.  another WGBL or arjac would be a better option in my opinion, especially as both are better in combat which is where you are trying to get them.
