Gentlemanloser
Storm Ravens are good. But not great. They are expensive, plus we don't have a CC orientated dread to carry in them. If we were to look elsewhere for Fliers, with the changes to the StormTalon, would you choose those, or Vendetta's? Night Scythes aside, what makes the best allied Flier? Well, what makes the best 'Imperial' Allied flyer. ;) Obviously not the Nephelim! :P The StormTalon with Skyhammer Missiles is (IIRC, away from my lappy) 5 points cheaper than a Vendetta. Which would you use, and why? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271732-allied-fliers/ Share on other sites
Aggelos Coteaz
personally I like the storm eagle :http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/Product/DefaultFW/xlarge/steagle1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271732-allied-fliers/#findComment-3311887 Share on other sites
Gentlemanloser
If I was interested in FW, I'd probably go for a Caestus. For the lulz. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271732-allied-fliers/#findComment-3311928 Share on other sites
IndigoJack
Vendetta all the way. 140 points gets you a vendetta w/ 3 TLLCs and 2x heavy bolters. 135 points of storm talon gets you 1 TLLC and an assault cannon. Throw in the AV12 of the vendetta and the AV11 of the ST as well as the difference in hullpoints and the vendetta comes out to be the winner IMO. Gentlemanloser
The Storm Talon also gets Ceramite Plating now. ;) And also has rear AV11, over the Vendetta's AV10. Plus for 125 points you get a TLAC and Skyhammer Missile Launcher (which does S7, AP4, Heavy 3). IndigoJack
Storm talon always had ceremite plating. Melta isn't really necessary against AV11 though to begin with. Rear AV10 isn't hard to protect. The limited movement of flyers makes it hard for them to get back there, and if you really think someone is about to pop you in the rear, you just fly off the board. Unless I'm mistaken the skyhammer missile launcher is more expensive as well. I don't have my ipad handy to look it up though. Gentlemanloser
Nah, it's def 125 all in now. Heh, thought the plating was new. Shows how much I cared about the ST originally! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271732-allied-fliers/#findComment-3311948 Share on other sites
Inquisitor Fox
Perhaps it's my Hereticus/Sororitas heart, but I'd take an Avenger Strike Fighter (Forgeworld) 190 points can get you an Avenger Bolt Cannon (36" s6 ap3 heavy 7), 2 lascannons, 2 missile launchers (krak missiles usually as opposed to frag), and a defensive rear facing cheeky heavy stubber. Yes it's armored like a Chimera, but whatever vehicles are in your opponents backfield are now in a serious world of about to go up in flame. That and it looks really sweet.... EDIT: Oh, and it has strafing run. Pew pew pew... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271732-allied-fliers/#findComment-3311950 Share on other sites
number6
Vendetta with HB sponsons is an incredibly point-efficient purchase. If that's what you're after -- and you don't wanna run a Necron flying circus -- I think that's your choice. Besides, if you wanna stick within the Inquisitorial theme, it's very easy to justify valks and vendettas as Inquisitorial vehicles. The precedent has long been there, if only in FW. IndigoJack
Not just FW, in the old daemonhunters book, you could ally in IG or space marines. In fact, the list I ran back then had several IG units in it. Inquisitor Fox
Number6 is referring to the ability for a "Inquisitorial Retinue/Henchmen Warband" in IA2 to take a Valkyrie as a transport option :) Which does give you a pretty old precedent to utilize Valkyries with an Inquisitorial force.
