Abaddon the Despoiler, Warmaster of Chaos

if you ask me, the old Citadel model of Abaddon is woefully inadequate as a representation of the Warmaster, the galaxy's most formidable mortal servant of the Ruinous Powers - it's tiny, dated and undynamic. So my preoccupation for the last week or so has been trying to do this character justice with a model. Here's what I've come up with, sorry some of the pics are crap. All feedback would be very valued!

And a sense of size:

Components used:
- Helbrute torso
- metal obliterator
- Abaddon head, hands and trophies
- terminator lord chains
- Tomb Kings shields for greeves
- Dark Vengeance lord cloak
- Chaos Knight shoulder pad (as stomach plate - to be painted as an eye of horus)
- plastic terminator upper arms
- slate nicked from my friend's neighbour's driveway
- vehicle sprue spike
- plenty of green stuff!

Now to paint the bugger....

I agree with the thigh armor, needs something, maybe some chaotic arrows/spikes like some of the obliterators have on theirs? I'm not sure I like the chaos knight shoulderpad as the stomach plate, when I first saw it I just thought it was the normal bit where the terminator hips would normally join the torso (if that makes any sense). Other than that though he looks awesome and that is a very clever use of the Hellbrute bit.

Nice Conversion, that's the second time I've seen the Oblit kit used well in a Commander today.

I agree with you about the current GW model. Even in 4th ed. he looked poor, especially seeing as he's the Chaos equivalent of Calgar.

Thanks for the thoughts so far - I had left the thigh quite plain as it will essentially just be painted black and so I didn't think it would be too conspicuous that it's unadorned. Very fair comments though, I could try sculpting some trim or something.

I'm not 100% sold on his base at the moment, e.g. whether to use that vehicle spike thing or try something else like some water effects. The sculpted Chaos arrows are also a bit of a gamble, I'm thinking of paintint them up like they're glowing as the ground round his feet is corrupted.

i like where this is going, but the claw position looks odd. the ammo belt doesn't look natural "standing" in the air like that. i'd turn the claw so it hangs down or try to bend the ammo belt down or cut it and replace it. just my 2 flayed skulls

Well then, very nice! Good start. All I have to say is bravo and that great minds think alike! pinch.gif My Nurgle Terminator Lord I started about 3 weeks ago uses that exact same bit for the torso! I should have posted it on here a while back, but was still working on it plus I was going to school!

But back on topic, just add some details to the thigh armor, nothing too crazy! It just stands out so much due to lack of any details!!!

Well observed, thanks for the comment! I was aware that the ammo belt wasn't quite obeying (terrestrial) gravity, but I opted to compromise as I really wanted him to be beckoning forward his next foe with the claw, which didn't really work with a vertically aligned fist. I don't think there's much scope for bending it in a more authentic direction, as it's quite integrated to the cabling of the claw. Good spot though!

I may try adding a bit of trim to the thigh, though I do think the bare batch is more glaring in WIP than it will be when painted black.
