Legion Recon Squads. anyone use them?

I have 10 spare mk4 marines I'm thinking of fielding as two 5 man recon squads.

The reasoning is I have the spare slots and points available and a couple of squads that could outflank into place to grab objectives later in the game could be interesting as a distraction for my enemy if nothing else.

Whats others thoughts on using recon squads?

I have thought about them but I never found the right army where to put them.

Their main problem is the fact they have to pay for the sniper rifle upgrade and what you get is a group of Scouts with +1BS. They have nice grenades, though.

If you want to field them I'd suggest 10 men squad. MSU are not very effective in Legiones Astartes armies, usually ;)

Personally I've always seen them as Tacticals with Outflank, I feel the scout upgrades are too expensive but if you give them ccw and outflank them they can be a last turn objective grabber.

However this isn't based on any play testing, just something I noticed when reading through, so I can't assure success.

Well FW has some new models for them coming out as seen in the white dwarf, but I was thinking the same thing the other day. It might be better to give them sniper rifles and hide them with an objective in your deployment zone as the shroud grenades are kinda good plus power armored scouts are great. But it all depends on how the rest of your army works. What else do you use?

You could add the consul in there and have a nasty alpha strike unit to cause disruption. In larger games I could see a squad of these drawing fire from the main force while you move up. If they don't focus on the recon squad then they could potentially wreak havoc.....

....sorry my inner Alpha Legion is showing.
