New space wolves player

Lord Heremes

Thunderwolves can only join other wolves, so her TWL is going to feel pretty lonely and isolated without a pack to run with. I'd grab a box of TWC.

Also, the battleforce is sorely lacking Long Fangs, so I'd also grab a devastators box and mixnmatch SW bits to get rid of the vanilla taint.

What she'll want later on is more GH and maybe some TDAWG. A rune/wolf priest can be made from regular bits or bought as the actual models.. and she'll definitely want one eventually.

Ultimately, she can get away with what she has.. The rest is just preference.

Here is a post that I put up awhile back,

Shopping for Space Wolves

That might give you an idea on getting the most bang for you buck.  There are some changes that I will be making to it soon to highlight the changes that 6th edition has made to the basic buy.

  • 4 weeks later...

Long Fangs, Rune Priests, grey Hunters... All the mainstays of the Space Wolves, all can be kit bashed using the Grey hunters boxed set. Just buy some ML and LC for the Long Fangs and you are golden. For the Wolf Lord I'd recommend a pack of Fen Wolves, but that would take some conversion skills that a new player wouldn't have. So TWC will work for now.

And pass our greetings (and the ale) to our newest recruit!

aye but at 15 quid for 5, its pretty expensive running fenrisian wolves

i onyl really find them worth running in full 15 hordes - which'll set you back 45 quid, whereas 3 TWC will only set you back around 30, and make a much meaner lookin retunie for that lord ;)

or, if the people you'll be playing against dont mind you proxying - you can usually find goblin wolves for dirt cheap on ebay - i picked up 20 or so of em for under a tenner. Maybe not the best idea for the long run/if your playing comp, but they certainly work for friendly games/figuring out whether you want to use fenrisian wolves.

But aye, as people have said above. Grey Hunters. And more grey hunters.

Long fangs and rune priests are also awesome.

You may also want to invest in an aegis line with some sort of qaud/lascannon emplacement for better dealing with the abundance of flyers you apparently get these days (luckily none of my mates have invested in any yet!)

You should play a few games with proxies for her to get a better idea of how she plays and what units she will gravitate towards.

All of the above suggestions are great, never forget vehicles, rhinos and Drop Pods are always nice to have the option, plus SW vehicles look sweet with all the stuff you can kit bash onto them from the battleforce.

My suggestions:

1) Thunderwolf Cavalry

2) Long Fangs

3) Grey Hunters/Blood Claws

4) Rune Priest/Wolf Priest

5) A vehicle- Rhino, Vindicator, or another Drop Pod

Valerian speaks sense (don't make too much of a habit of it please) and any of the new recruits would benifit greatly from looking over Ramses stickied post as it has links for ideas and inspiration. It may also answer your questions before you post them too so you can get on with the juicy stuff of posting picks of your minis.

Now where did the rest of the pack hide. I'm sure I'm owed a drink and owe a punch or three.
