Draigowing? Or Wizard of space & time with scoring Pallies?

So we want a core of Paladin as troops.  We want the 2W, Laugh at Plasma bad:cuss's of the 40k universes.  The elite of the elite.

We want to run a Draigowing!

Well, let's assume we're not adverse to running other units apart from Paladin, as long as we get our solid core.

So how can we make up for the drawbacks that an elite, expensive & tiny squad brings?

A mass of cheap, scoring and shooty units!

Is there any way we can get both?  As many massed cheap shooty 'dudes', with our scoring core?

Enter the Wizard of Space & Time!

For the same price as Draigo, we can get ourselves both the Wizard Coteaz, and a GKGM.  This lets us build an army that starts to look like;

HQ: Coteaz (100)

HQ: GKGM (175)

Elite: Paladin x10, Psycannon x4 (630)

Troop: Warrior Accolyte x12, Storm Bolter x12 (84)

Troop: Warrior Accolyte x12, Storm Bolter x12 (84)

Troop: Warrior Accolyte x12, Storm Bolter x12 (84)

Troop: Warrior Accolyte x12, Storm Bolter x12 (84)

Troop: Warrior Accolyte x12, Storm Bolter x12 (84)

Troop: Warrior Accolyte x12, Storm Bolter x12 (84)

Total: 1,409

The GKGM makes the Paladin scoring, and this doesn't impact our Troop slots, letting us take 72(!!) cheap as chips, scoring Storm Bolter caddies to blaze away at 24".

Who doesn't like to roll dice?

And we've got almost 600 points left to play with.  Like your vehicles?  Add in 6 Psybolt Razorbacks for 300 points, and you've still got enough for some Strikes or TLAC Dreads / NDK if you so wish.

Elite, and cheap and cheerful working hand in hand, to leverage the most out of our 'dex. ;)

(Coteaz stays with the Paladin for Divination on 4 Psycannons.  Pew Pew.  And don't enter play from reserves near him either!)

I like it and I've been playing around with some lists using cheap henchmen to score. With six troops do we really need paladins to score? Why not stick a omi with tda/psycannon with the pallies casting prescience and send coteaz off to buff the henchmen? I like to stick a monkey with my shooty henchmen for a chance at rending, but that goes against the objective of keeping them cheap.

Well it all comes down to what you make of the last 600 pts really. At the moment, I wouldnt fear 10 Paladins and 60 acolytes.

The 60 acolytes are still guardsmen but with bigger guns.

The focus would be to take out the Paladins first (as it is atm), once that is done, taking care of the 5+ with T3 guys isnt really that much of a challenge. Sure they got storm bolters. But how much damage will they really do? With no support from an inquisitor or similar, they lack that extra punch.

They are, at best atm, objective claimers.

120 bolter shots, 60 hits, 30 wounds, 10 dead space marines. This is when your in range with everything and you havent lost a single henchman.

I would give the Paladins an Apothecary. Because there will be plasmaguns, and there will be failed iv save. This will increase the durability of the Paladin unit. Also, Draigo is really good at what he is meant for, getting the paladins to the front line. A grand master is cheaper yes, but he wont last as long as Draigo.

Draigo will soak lascannons, meltaguns, etc and have a 3++ save against it. Top that with feel no pain. His role is not to kill kill kill, but to get those Paladins as intact as possible to the front lines.

A grand master cant soak, nor does he really add anything as he is atm.

For me, those 100 pts extra is worth every penny. He will save, atleast, 4 Paladins. And expect heavy fire on this unit.

Anyhow, might work. As I said, all depends on the other 600 pts.

Wizard of Space and Time is better in a normal list, methinks. Draigowing would actually be better with IG or Orks. I like the concept, but Henchmen are kinda squishy and once the Deathstar is dead they can't do much to anything outside of normal infantry.

Yeah, now that I think about it, Draigo is a godsend in this new edition of 'first model dies'. He'll tank so much damage, and he can always 2+ LOS! to a Pally within 2" to increase his longevity.
