Hiroitchi
This is taken from my original post in the Index Astartes Section. I'll post all my battle reports here from now on. It has been years since I have written a Battle Report, let alone keep an ongoing log of it. Having returned to the addiction that is Games Workshop and Warhammer 40,000 with 6th Edition, I'm am finding the world has indeed changed. I began to reminisce in the days of 2nd edition and how epic a lot of those games were. I have seen the change from something in depth to something more user friendly in regards to the rules, hence my departure from the game. Now with 6th edition, I have decided to rebuild my collection in regards to a particular player by the name of GREATCRUSADE08 and reading Fantasy Flight's Honour the Chapter in their DEATHWATCH RPG line as well as Imperial Armor Nine through Eight. I completely was immersed in the chapter known as the Raptors and fell a kinship to them due to my role in First Person Shooters, the sniper. A light bulb occurred and the intensive use of Space Marine Scouts became viable in my head. I have rummaged through sites and various articles stating the lack of "competitiveness of Scout Armies." In fact, months ago at one of my local game stores, a player had asked me what army did I play and I responded with the obvious, Space Marines. He scoffed and assumed I ran with either a Pedro Cantor List with a Sternguard Spam or a Vulkan He'Stan Melta/Flamer Spam. I smiled and responded with, "oh no, I use a Scout Army." He then laughed and simply stated condescendingly, "I'm sorry." With that I knew I might have an underdog with this army and quite possibly the ability to meta game my opponent with the thought that he or she will under estimate my force. I can harken back to one of my favorite movies, "the Patriot," where in one of the final scenes a British General had total disregard to an American Militia. The Commanding officer played on that General's notion against him and evidently presented a force that became one that shouldn't be dealt with lightly. Using many tips provided by Great Crusade08 and various other resources, I intend to embark in a journey to investigate the viability of a Fluffy Scout Army. My primary character will always be Chapter Master Lias Issodon from Imperial Armor Nine. In stepping down from my soap box, I do hope you find this Thread enjoyable and please feel free to comment and I will respond as quickly as possible. This thread will serve as a Battle Report that may or may not be written in a narrative format. Again thank you for reading. After all thisis the Internet. I, Hiro, am playing the Raptors Chapter and my opponentCole is playing with Blood Angels. He and I are fairly new to 6thedition and we had to reference the rule book many occasions. To furthernote, Cole is primarily a Space Wolf Player and collects miniatures ofthat nature. Cole and I rolled for initiative and I had won. Coleattempted to seize the initiative, but failed; I optioned to deployfirst. 500 Pts - Raptor ChapterHQ: Lias Issodon (IA) (1#, 140 pts) 1 Lias Issodon (IA), 140 pts (Power Sword; Warlord)Troops: 9 Scout Squad, 200 pts (Sniper Rifle x8; Missile Launcher) 1 Sergeant Telion (Camo Cloak)Troops: 4 Scout Squad, 100 pts (Camo Cloaks; Sniper Rifle x3; Missile Launcher) 1 Sergeant (Camo Cloaks; Bolt Pistol; Sniper Rifle)Fast Attack: 1 Land Speeder Storm, 60 pts (Heavy Flamer)Composition Report:HQ: 1 (0 - 1)Elite: 0 (0 - 1)Troops: 2 (1+)Fast: 1 (0 - 1)Heavy: 0 (0 - 1)Fort: 0 (0) Allied Detachment: N/A Total Roster Cost: 500 500 Pts - Blood Angels Roster - Kroner EscalationElite: 1 Furioso Dreadnought, 140 pts (Extra Armour; Blood Talons)Troops: 1 Death Company, 220 pts (Jump Packs) 3 Death Company (Jump Pack) 1 Death Company (Jump Pack; Thunder Hammer) 1 Death Company (Jump Pack; Infernus Pistol)Troops: 4 Assault Squad, 140 pts (Infernus Pistol) 1 Sergeant (Hand Flamer x1; Power Sword x1) Composition Report:HQ: 0 (0 - 1)Elite: 1 (0 - 1)Troops: 2 (1+)Fast: 1 (0 - 1)Heavy: 0 (0 - 1)Fort: 0 (0) Allied Detachment: N/ATotal Roster Cost: 500 Pre Turn 1 After deployment, the games were a foot. Cole and I both forgot thatJump Pack Infantry can use Deep Strike. I began my turn using LiasIssodon's special ability and inflicted three wounds to his DeathCompany unit. He managed to save all of them using two regular armorsaves and one Feel No Pain. I started with moving my Land Speeder Stormwith a Combat Squad of Scouts armed sniper rifles and a missile Launcherembarked in the transport to its full scout move. Cole having no scoutsto speak of passed. Turn 1 Lias Issodon approached the Blood Angels as well as the Land SpeederStorm advancing towards their Deployment Zone in combat speeds. Telionand his Squad decides to hold their ground in favor of placing theirshots accurately against the tide of Crimson Armor. Lias fires his Omenpattern boltgun with Vengence Rounds and inflicts two unsavable woundsto an Assualt Squad. Telion and his infilitarted squad inflict threemore wounds in which Cole manages to roll amazingly enough to sufferonly one loss to his Death Company. The embarled Scouts only cause thedisheartening sounds of ammunition impacting on metal upon unleasing hipfired rounds from their Sniper Rifles and one Rocket Launcher. Cole advanced his army closer in hopes to getting into weapon rangeand get into an area where his Army shines the best in close combat. HisFurioso Dreadnaught takes pot shots at the Land Speeder Storm andcauses it to explode with a round of Melta to the Storms Hull. Theoccupants miraculously notices the shot and jumps out of the Storm as itexplodes mid air. The Scouts dusting themselves off go to ground upon abarrage of Storm Bolter rounds impacting the ground around them. Coleattempts to charge at my forces and to his dismay lacks the distance toaccomplish the task as well as suffering more casualties with 6thEdition rule of Overwatch. His Assault Squad suffers one more unsavablewound to Lias bolter "Malice" and falls short on their charge. The samefate falls to Cole's Death Company and another Death Company Marine hitsthe ground with a sniper round imbedded in his skull. Turn 2 With One squad keeping their heads down admist the ominous Hulk thatis the Furioso Dreadnaught, Lias advances and Squad Telion hunkers down.Squad Telion can see glimpses of the Blood Angels Death Companyfrothing at the mouth for some close combat action and fires anothersalvo of poisoned rounds, stalker ammunition, and a Krak missile only tosee one of his Death Company Marines falls to the dirt. Lias causes oneunsavable wound with a vengeance round and in doing so inflicts oneonto himself due to him cooking off his barrel causing Malice to bedeemed unusable for the rest of the fight. He then charges the oneremaining Assault Marine, the Sergeant, in close combat in which findsLias the victor. Bloodied and looking for revenge, Cole's remaining forces advancetowards the Raptors Line. Cole fails to cause any damage to thesurvivors of the Land Speeder Storm and due to raging fury, his DeathCompany fails to cause any damage to the Raptors behind a wall made ofCermamite. Molten Melta simply impacts the Cover Telion's Squad hasbunkered themselves in. In the heat of the moment, Cole charges hisremaining forces towards the bunkered Squad Telion. Unfortunatelythrough a hail of Sniper Fire, a missile launcher, and Telion's StalkerBolter, Squad Telion manages to imbed another round through the skull ofa Death Company Marine. Angered at the loss of his brothers, the LoneDeath Company Marine Armed with a Thunder Hammer jumps into the centerof Squad Telion and finds him Challenged by Telion himself. In thetruest of fashions, The lone Blood Angel, being an expert in closecombat dodged Telion's attacks. Telion's buttstrokes of his StalkerPattern Boltgun saw only air. Telion's skull had felt the fury of amillion volts of electricity as the Death Company Marine swings theThunder Hammer across Telion's face causing his lifeless body soaringmeters from where Telion was standing. Having lost their Leader, the remnants of Squad Telion break cover and Fall Back. Endgame Cole, ends the game due to other obligations and leaves with thatpositive note. Overall the game was fun and I am beginning to see theamount of shenanigans I can pull with an All Scout force. I can not waitto see more games, but I am in no way attempting to count this firstbattle as a true test. It is simply a slight taste for more things tocome Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/271917-the-grim-and-gritty-debrief/ Share on other sites

Hiroitchi
Lias “The Grim” Issodon, Chapter Master of the Raptors Chapter keeps a close eye on the battlefield. His reconnaissance patrol has already set foot ahead of the Dark Angels Combat patrol. As he expected, the only voices emanating from his Vox are that of the Dark Angels. He knows that Squads Rapier, Broadsword, and Katana will perform as he would expect from the members of his Chapter. The light of day will soon break and the benefits of owning the night shall be lost. Just over the horizon, Squad Katana sees movement. Split between two teams to better cover ground and vantage points in the ruined tower, Squad Katana remains under radio silence as mandated by their Chapter. No word has been heard from either Bike Squad Rapier or Squad Broadsword all night, but their Auspex movements still continues to breathe life in the sector. Ten Marines from a Dark Angels Tactical Squad march forward alongside their Company Master, Master Koveske. The Grim remains standfast and vigilant amongst the Dark Angels Five Man Devestator Squad. “Brother Koveske, it is advisable for your mento seek cover upon open ground as we begin to lose the veil of darkness.” Lias Issodonstates over the vox. “With all due respect Chapter Master, I am fully aware of the situation. Emperor Protects.” Needle shots erupt from the positions of the advanced Squad Katana as the light of the moon glistens on the metallic skin of the Necrons. The stoically advance forward with no regard for personal safety. Charges of energy from their gauss weapons impact on the rubble protecting Squad Katana. Without warning and in a swift manner two of Squad Katana’s members fall uponbeing marked by a light. “Report!” Sergeant Vellius commands. “Demios and Frenor are dead.” Greynir reports as he inspects their wounds. “Charring appears to be from Tau weaponry.” Lias Issodon, having hearing the sounds of combat and the reports of two dead marines from his Chapter, Lias assumes a combat stance. ”Master Koveske , ready yourself, we are to be engaged.” Plasma rounds impact around the Dark Angels Tactical Squad. The darkness prevents the Bolters of the Sons of Johnson to be of any use, so they continue to advance. On the other hand the Devastators were slightly more successful than their brethren. “Continue to Advance!” Master Koveske commanded over the Vox. “Know No Fear Brothers!” The advancing Tactical squad begins to take heavy casualties as the light of the sun reveals the armor of Tau crisis suits and the two Fire Warrior squads. Squad Katana opens fire at all applicable targets ranging from well positioned Tau and advancing Necrons. The Fire warriors keep their heads down from the precision shooting Squad Katana’s sniper rifles, but it was not enough as the advancing Tactical Squad suffer casualties. Before Master Koveske could finish his order regroup and lead a full on attack with his Ravenwing Bike squad attempting to outflank the Tau, he suffers a bolt of plasma to his armor. The high intensity round erupted from the Crisis suit belonging to the Tau’s leader rips through Koveske shields and turns Koveske into a dark ash filled stain on the ground. The remainder of the Tactical Squad is ripped apart by the tenacity of the Tau’s guns. Lias Issodon then assumes tactical command of the battlefield and orders the Devastators and the Blue Team of Squad Katana to concentrate all efforts to obliterate the Tau threat. “Did I hear that correctly Sergeant?” inquired one of the Scouts as he drops another scarab to the ground. “Yes, Red Team,” Sergeant Vellius states. “Keep those Necrotyr at bay while my team sends those Tau to Oblivion.” Without a word, Squad Katana acknowledges. Sergeant Vellius fires his flamer at the oncoming Scarabs as they also hit by the cluster mines provided by Squad Rapier. This causes them to retreat. Squad Rapier, Broadsword, and the Ravenwing Bike Squadron enter the battlefield eradicating a Fire Warrior Squad, and a five man squad of Necrons. Squad Rapier continues to advance and sell their lives to buy some time for Broadsword and Katana to get into positions. The Tau threat is quickly eliminated and brought down to three Fire Warriors. The battle ends with Necrons about to be surrounded and destroyed by the imperium.
