How to become a dread knight pilot?

Alas, not all Grey Knights have the strength of mind and subtlety of reaction required to master the exoskeleton's many combat stances.  Only a very few Battle-Brothers show enough aptitude to begin training, let alone be deemed fit to control such a weapon in the heat of battle.  So it is that Nemesis DreadKnight pilots are amongst the Grey Knight's most honoured warriors, for they have mastered skills that are the envy of thier brethren.

One day, Paladin Baller was fighting a Bloodthirster one on one;

'My sword is taking forever to rip this guy apart. I keep missing, or failing to damage him sufficiently. There has to be a quicker way to curbstomp warpspawn...'

Nearby, a Tech-Marine called Megatron overhears the Paladin as he repairs a nearby ruin to house a Strike squad. Looking up at the Bloodthirster getting its face wrecked, he has a brilliant plan.

Forgemaster Ward is dubious, but eventually grants sanction. Tech-Marine Megatron heads to a frontier world in the Tau Empire with a small strikeforce. Easily slaughtering their infantry, Megatron uses his haxy magic to disrupt and disable the Crisis battlesuit contigent. Hauling the few surviving suits back to Titan, he begins work along with a small army of servitors and sanctioned adepts.

A month later and several hive worlds GDP spent, Megatron unveils his creation to Paladin Baller. Taking to the field immediately in the new exoskeleton, Baller dispatches a horde of Daemons singlehandedly, only to die after getting swamped by Nurglings.

Forgemaster Ward pulls Megatron aside and dismisses his creation as a failure. 'But Forgemaster, don't you see? Now all the impatient hotheads can fly deep into the heart of the enemy, causing mass casualties as they die. Win-win' argues back Megatron. Grandmaster Swag immediately requisitions an exoskeleton for himself, as do his elite bodyguard of Paladins. Dropping onto a Daemon World, their last transmission finally stamps a name on the newest weapon in Titan's arsenal. 'Dread the knights!' he exclaims, as they teleport to certain death.

Except Dreadnights are recovered DAOT Tech!

So, in the wake of that tongue-in-cheek trainwreck of answers, possibly the answer is "We're really not sure beyond what the recent codex tells us." smile.png It was invented with that book (for the new model) so there's no legacy information on it.

It's a mystery, known to perhaps only very few.

Er, my post *was* the codex entry. msn-wink.gif

LoL.

Nobody reads the actual 'dex? tongue.png

I caught that, but you know it didn't have a quote block, or quotation marks, or really anything else to distinguish it as anything other than the follow-up train. <3 It did seem a safe assumption that the OP read the codex then came here looking for more answers, which nobody seems to have. I feel like "Dreadknight Honors" merit being as well-defined as Terminator Honors, but they're not.

Ok brothers I have been wondering who pilots the dread knights and how do they become the pilot it's really just a fluff question

They get a CSCS card and a Dreadknight licence. The upside to that is that they can freely walk around a construction site, too.
