henrywalker
so i have a converted plague marine army that have skaven heads. I just converted my lord and realised that all the heads look a bit plain so i had a go at adding a lense to one of his eyes. I found it quite difficult and i was wondering if anyone else has tried this or has any tips. sorry for the bad pic. Durus
It's a bit hard to tell fromt he pic but depending on the generation of skaven bits you are using the eyes should probably be facing forward, just like the lenses. Like here. To build them I'd just glue some plastic tube on and sclupt all other details (if necessary) on. There are usually two ways I use to make lenses. The first one is to use a bit of putty on one end of the tube and dip a straight round shape into it, which should create an even lip around the indentation. If you don't get it even you can file it flat after the putty has dried. The second way would be to make a ball of putty slightly smaller in diameter than your plasticrod, let it dry and cut it in half before glueing it in place. This gives you pronounced bulbous lense which generally works good if you need something bigger. The third and most obvious way, which I almost forgot, would be using a SM scope cut to size and glued into place with a wire glued to the back as cabling. If you were just asking about painting forget everything else and just take a look at this link. Basically the classic GW style for painting SM eyes. If you want to try something more ambitious with OSL have a look here. Just in case you plan to do more conversions like this Basicks, one half of the company formerly known as Micro Arts sells these heads. Sorry for the wall of text, I think I need to get some sleep.
