paint stripping FW models

Recommended Posts

wow!  I am workin gon the modl lines for this 'supposed' FW dred I just gpot from an ebay seller, and the thing is made of some sort of blue polymenr and not the typical grey FW resin!  Looks like I got jipped as far as the nature of the product, but the quality, even though it is a bit light and flimsy as far as construction, the details still look good and crisp underneath the black undercoat.

Serves me right for ordering through ebay and not going driect!

I've used Scalecoat II Wash Away Paint Remover

You can find it at the bottom of the page. It's designed to remove paint from plastic models. I haven't tried it on FW stuff. The things I did use it on it took everything off, even some of the primer.

I sent the guy a message 1st thorugh ebay's channels and let's see what he says.  Basically I think he got it from someone else as a trade and hopefully did not know it was a fake.

I still saved some money, but thought I was getting the real deal and not a re-cast.

That being said, I don't know if it is worth ruining this guys life as he might not have even known!

Thanks for the heads up all around, with regards to reporting a fake as well as the paint remover tip!

report the seller to FW, if he claimed it was their product he was selling then they should be made aware, "i didnt know" isnt an excuse.. much like selling on stolen goods.

FW are very good for building good will with people who have been gyped by fraudsters.. they tend to ask you to send the model to them so they can have a looksee then send out the real deal to you from what ive seen in the past.

I might do just that, though I feel bad if I get the guy in trouble, as he did refund my shipping and handle charge...and I truly feel he got it from another guy in a trade and had no idea it was a fraud....Am I greedy if I send it back to FW just in hopes of getting a brand new model?

What do you think?

its entirely up to you, you could if you want ask for a refund from the seller (you were under the impression you were buying the real deal not a knock off) depending on his actions you can then either contact fw, send the model back to him, or leave it.

personally i would be on the phone to fw and reporting him as a scammer regardless.. but thats just me.
