So after seeing all the work in the Winter Advance thread and the many different Great Companies on display I decided to start this thread to ask everyone here in the Fang what Great Company you play, and why?

I'm going to keep a running tally here in the first post. To kick things off I play the Great Company of Silvar Stormblade, a Lost Company. I chose it because when I started my Space Wolves I did not feel I had the freehand skills to make any of the existing GC icons and I did not have any transfers as I got the start of the army second hand, so I chose a name and a symbol I could actually paint and the Great Company, and it's background grew from there.

So what about the rest of you guys? Represent your Great Company!

Logan Grimnar's Great Company, here. I picked the company based on which I figured would have the units I wanted (None fit exactly, so I figured that, as the largest of the companies, Logan Grimnar's Great Company could encompass most of what I wanted). From there, I started thinking about fluff for my commanders, and expanded from there.

I created my own Great company which was active during the 38th millennium, in 999.M41 it is one of the official Great companies, but I can't say which as have not reached that point yet. So just say it being one of the lost companies as Sören Serpentkiller who is Jarl in my company is dead and lost in 999.M41.

/C

Harald Deathwolf.  Love TWC and packs of Fen Wolves running across the board.  I have 2 models that could be Harald, Canis, a WGBL on a TW, 13 TWC, 2 Iron Priests on TW, 30 Fen Wolves and 5 Cyber Wolves.  Might be overboard but my dream is to collect and paint a whole great company so this should take care of a nice chunk of it.

Engir Krakendoom here. Lots of troops in longships (Rhinos and razorbacks) supported by bikes and the Starcharting of the Rune priests. I use Engir himself as a counts-as Logan to make all terminator boarding parties a lá Space Hulk, fitting with the naval and space combat theme of the great company.

Horus Heresy-era.

The warband is called Cry of the Grieving Jarl, though they're also listed in various Imperial archives (who seem to struggle with Space Wolf Legion organisation) as Howl of the Mourning Lord, and more simply 'the Dirge'. The warband uses the former of these last two names when dealing with other Imperial forces, and the latter as a short-hand reference they will at least answer to, if not with any particular affection or irritation one way or the other.

It's led by a Warleader and a Rune Priest. The former is Laughing Jaurmag - given his soul-name because he never smiles or laughs, neither in battle nor in revel. The latter is Rufn Fights-the-Final-Winter - given his soul-name name because he has visions of the Wolftime, in some dark and distant future.

They're currently in the 12th Great Company, though they were in the 7th for most of their history.

Historical Logan Grimnar's Great Company with envoys from other Great Companies.

My fluff is at an undisclosed point during the time that Logan is Great Wolf but prior to the present. I have a converted Wolf Guard Ranulf (who is dead in fluff by the "present") and Arjac. There doesn't seem to be any canon information on dates to confirm or deny whether these warriors could have fought together. The army includes a few members with the iconography of other Great Companies. My rationale is that with the unpredictability of communication in 40k some Wolf Lords have appointed members of their Wolf Guard to act as ambassadors to the Great Wolf whilst they are on distant campaigns.

Mine aren't an exact Great Company - following the fluff from Krom Dragongaze (I love having lots of Wolf Guard in my lists and am building up to run 50 TDAWG plus a further 150 PAWG) and the fluff from Kjarl Grimblood, just the thought of 12 Redeemers, chock full of Assault TDAWGs is beautiful and deadly tongue.png

So I'd mark down as a 'Lost' company for ease.

Also Ragnar's Great Company.

But I plan to do a Bran Redmaw's Great company detachment because I really like his fluff. Why not an heresy era army with the badge of the bllody hunter. Thanks Forge world for the space wolves decals.

Logan Grimnar.

I hope to one day do the full Chapter, however, might as well start with the Great Wolf himself.

My Elite slots are full most of the time and taking Logan fixes this for me.

Edit: <Date Below>

After further thought, I'd like to Found my own Great Company...
