He at least goes far more in depth than those on this board who just automatically dismiss the dex/units in the dex due to those units inbuilt weaknesses. Might be an interesting read... hornywingythingy
Its an interesting review, though I take issue with a lot of what the author thinks is good. I wonder if the difference of opinions stems from the fact some are looking at the dex competitively, and some from a fluffy based viewpoint? I'm looking from a fairly competitive standpoint, my local scene being very competitive, and I don't think this will cut the mustard so to speak. I almost feel the author is glossing over the bad parts of the dex too, though this could just be me... Iron Sage
So, by this review... my plan of including a GDoT and 10 Horrors as allies for my Thousand Sons isn't terrible? Well,he speaks highly of the GDoT, and according to him, horrors are not awful. But I am not sure if he speaks very highly of horrors to be honest. Anyway, its a good read. IMO you should do just that: Read it ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/272290-interesting-review/#findComment-3320504 Share on other sites
Nehekhare
different opinions are great, nothing is wrong with posting it. I understand that at this moment, any positive opinion is cherished. I just think that most other, not so enthusiastic, reviews shouldn't be themselves automatically dismissed only because they point out weaknesses. That particular review, however, goes a long way to not say anything bad, and it shows. Because of it, a big part of the percieved depth is inflation by very cinematic descriptions and platitudes. That is my opinion. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/272290-interesting-review/#findComment-3320506 Share on other sites

IGuides_JT
Hey mate, JT here from Imperator Guides - I am the site administrator and founder of Imperator Industries. I would like to thank you for sharing our site here on the Bolter & Chainsword, I really do appreciate the fact you thought our articles were worthwhile enough to be shared with your community. I also appreciate some of the praise we've received from the posters in this thread and I just want to let you know we listen to everyone's thoughts and opinions. Usually L2E (the writer of the articles you referenced) would respond personally to these kinds of posts however he is as of yet not a member of this site. To answer "hornywingythingy" yes we are as a matter of principle, more geared towards catering to the fluff player. We usually write our Tactica series more as an introductory guide to the army with some consideration as to the competitive nuance of any unit or unit combo, but we rarely dismiss a unit outright as we feel a majority of our readers want to know about how to use their cool models effectively, as opposed to just having the best one's - if that makes sense. As with most of these kind of articles, a lot of L2E's evaluations are personal opinion - which unfortunately, won't neccessarily reflect everyone else's thoughts - and he does love the new Codex without a doubt xD Yes "ironsage" Learn2Eel is far from a n00b player - he does not participate in tournaments but is a regular columnist on other sites and has been involved with the hobby to varying degrees for nearly 10 years. I'm sure he'd enjoy your comment =D And to "Nehekhare", I understand exactly where you're coming from. When we post our impressions of a Codex we do take into consideration other reviewer's opinions in an attempt to broaden our perspective on the book - I agree that a lot of the elements within the new Codex can be a major cause for concern with a lot of players and rightly so. From what I've read, the reviewers always have valid points to consider and we think it wise to read as many reviews as possible from reputable sources to gain a better perspective - apart from some of the knee - jerk rage we've seen in various forums and comment sections, I agree personally with a lot of what is being said. As a whole though, we are very positive that the new Codex is a good thing - but our opinion is merely an opinion and thus no one should ever take what we say as an absolute truth. Again, we really do appreciate that you guys mentioned us at all - we were quite surprised when we found a lot of traffic coming from this site where previously we had none. If you guys like, feel free to follow us as we will be, in stages obviously, doing a tactica series for every Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Fantasy army available - and if you guys have any suggestions or specific armies you'd like us to do - let me know either through the site or here. Sixestohit
It'sd also worth noting that the guys over on Imperator Guides have done loads more work on Daemons. There's so much good info over there that you all should check them out.Learn2Eel has done huge amounts of work on it and definitely deserves some serious props. Check out all their guides by following the link in the op. The amount of work that's been done on putting this tactica together is quite frankly astonishing, and should work really well as a go too for both new and old players with the new dex. If you like it, you can even leave them some feedback in their comments on their site, and they're really good for replying back :) Brilliant stuff. James. Smurfalypse
I actually really like the reviews and agree with a good portion (I know it is all opinion) of what was written up. It is certainly focused more on positives than negatives which is a breath of fresh air but the point about the Warp Storm table completely winning a game on its own was the best part of the write up. The example, while extreme, was right on in my opinion. I have played with the Daemons in five games now all as my primary detachment with CSM as the allies (Word Bearers summon a ton of stuffz!) and am really starting to get a feel for how the different units can work. I havent really toyed much with the elites but I have really spammed all of the troops, all of the HQs, all of the FA and all of the heavies and there are just sooooo many options within those choices that very little is "unuseable". This differs greatly with the CSM codex where one choice in a slot outshines everything else so much that you do not take the other things and it is a wonderful feeling to say the least. 4-1 with Daemons/CSMs so far, having a blast.
