Blood Fangs

Recommended Posts

Blood Claws? I dont usually take them, WS3 is just a bit meh in my opinion for the price I pay, I think theyre a little overcosted. Grey hunters are just infinitely better with their standard of overpowered.

However, I used to run biker packs, 4 with a flamer, fist, attack bike with heavy bolter led by a WG with combimelta and fist and a WP on bike with runic armour.

Preferred enemy infantry and fearless, with t5 and +2 attacks on the charge. Only problem is that they are pretty high cost and didnt often do as well as Id like.

My personal opinion is that Blood Claws don't work unless you really, really build your army around their strengths. That means multiple units in Land Raider crusaders to take advantage of their high pack size, Logan Grimnar and/or Wolf Priests for force Multiplication, and probably guard allies to add cheap scoring units with heavy weapons teams to make up for the high cost of multiple land raiders carrying large numbers of marines.

Swiftclaws are only worth it in groups or alongside TWC. The attack bike is a waste IMO, unless you need the fire support. I have done well with two packs of 4 with flamer and fist. I do agree that they are expensive for what they do, but space vikings on motorcycles is just plain cool.

Using a Saga of the Hunter WP with a full pack of Blood Claws has always seemed like a cool idea. Give them a Wolf Guard in Terminator armour to take challenges and you have a monster of a unit to throw into someone's backfield, back them up with some fast moving units or Drop Pods and it sounds like trouble for your opponent's big guns and objectives.

I give the Wolf Priest Saga of the Hunter. Then I outflank with the whole pack and let havoc loose when they appear a few turns into the game. I trick them out with a TDA WG sergeant, a Wolf Priest (of course), a powerfist, and probably two flamers, since it wouldn't be inhibited by their BS3 and it would give them 2d3 Overwatch.

I hate Skyclaws though. Swiftclaws are decent, but expensive.

This is exactly what I am thinking about and it gives me a fluff angle: All of the great companies have Blood Claws, at least pack of 15 at the very least. Imagine 13 x 4 attacks on the charge............. thats 52 attacks & a Rune Priest with prophecy nearby. That must be fun!

Theyre still only WS and BS3, and upgrades are espensive, wheras TWC is twice the cost, for ws4, 2 wounds and 4 attacks basic with rending, S5 and are also cavalry. Its not that they are expensive, theyre overcosted in comparison with everything else. From experience, even with all the gubbins and a wolf priest and wg leading them, they just dont pull their weight like other units do. Theyre not a top combat unit (especially after the first round), and theyre not a great drive-by unit. Theyre kinda in-between. Their main downside is still their poor WS and BS.

They probably would work however in tandem. Taking two squads and using them to support incoming pods. Littbitz used to use them last ed, but I havent seen them used since. I personally use lasplasrazor squads for that.

Yep, that. Although I should have said 75-100% accuracy (TL BS3 , not 4)

Relentless and HoW are big perks not to be ignored. Grey hunters and Blood Claws, for instance, only get a single bolt pistol shot before charging.

Also, Swiftclaws can get in position on turn 1 with a 24" turbo boost, along with a 4+ cover save. That's pretty good, and they don't have to pay extra. Casualties while closing to melee is a Big Deal, IMO.
