My Bloody Angels

Recommended Posts

Finally figured out how to post pics properly...  So here we go, some work that is ALMOST finished.

I know I have to drill the barrels on the bolters, I just don't have one small enough.  Works for stormbolters and bigger barreled weapons.  The bases are not done, because for the longest time I didn't know what I wanted to do, but I have a good idea in my head now with a dry earth method using cork board.

C&C welcome of course.

Nice work, I like your red. The Baal Pattern guns are pretty interesting, don't know if I'd do that but.....you know what now I'm kinda tempted to try it out. Power weapons are kinda trick, if you have any spare chain swords laying round I'd suggest practicing on them. Good work!

White undercoat

Base coat Mephiston Red
1 coat of Evil Sunz Scarlet
2 coats Agrax Earthshade
Highlight Evil Sunz Scarlet

The red looks a lot darker, and dirtier from when I use to paint my BA over 10 years ago.  For me it really goes with the whole dark fluff of M.41.  I got back into the hobby last year, and it's funny how much I improved with age, not painting anything for so long.

I'll try practicing on some chain swords like you suggested.  I can usually get 1 good looking power sword done, but its the consistency that I can't get with them.  1 looks great, then the next one doesn't look as good, and so on, so I just left them all dark blue until I'm comfortable finishing them.

For me, I wanted to stay away from a traditional boltgun metal, or black boltgun.  I wanted something different but couldn't decide what I wanted to do.  I originally went with all white, and gold magazines, (like on the Baal Pred, that I forgot to change)  but it didn't work for me.  After seeing the Baal Patern Boltgun in the 6th ed rule book, I tried it out and was happy with it.  It looks different, and I think it ties in with a lot of the imagery you see in artwork.  Golden boltguns, golden ornamental pieces on their armour, etc.

Yeah I like the glow as well, I tried a few times months ago when I saw it on a nurgle hellbrute conversion, and gave up.  Then someone posted a pic on the forum how metal looks when its super hot, and the colour changes it goes through.  I tried to copy it as best I could.  I like it on the flamers too.  Just worked my way up from a really dark red, almost burgundy, and layered in lighter reds to orange all the way to the tip, finally using a really light orange.  I tried not to let the paint dry between layers so I could kind of blend each layer into the previous.  I let the dark orange dry before I highlighted the tip with the light orange.  You can see in the flamer pic, that I dry brush a little bit of dark blue at the end of the barrels that connect to the muzzle, then inked it with blue ink.  I do the same effect on the front of the flamer ignitor.

Thanks for the comments, will post more as I finish more up.  In the final stages of highlighting another tactical squad, and brightening up the whites, will be a couple days probably.  Cheers.

  • 2 weeks later...

Yes, the hot melta weapons seem to be popular.  Glad you like it.  It really is quite easy once you get the hang of it.  Just start with a burgundy red, then work up with mephiston red, evil sunz scarlet, and darker to lighter oranges from their...  I did try it months ago and got fed up with how it looked, and then tried it again, and was finally happy with how it came out.

I have finished my latest tactical squad AND based them.  I finally figured out what I am going to do, but as my agrax earthshade is running low, I am saving it for my models.  The bases will get some ink, and some touch ups later.  Enjoy!

Thanks Nexus, I don't think I will have much to post by the end of the weekend, just haven't found the time, and my next refurbished tactical squad still needs a lot of work, highlighting being the big part of that.

If I paint the multi-melta this weekend, I could post a landspeeder.  Need to stay off the computer and stick to the paints!
