Build a Counts-As model

I'm playing an Alpha Legion army right now, and I always like running Abaddon in larger games. I am wanting to make a model to represent Alpharious, the Primarch of the AL, and just use Abaddn's rules for him.

Here is my question for you all. Abaddon is in terminator armor and has the 2+ armor save with it. I would prefer to juse model Alpharious in power armor, and fluff wise, a Primarch with a 2+ power armor save is totally logical. Heck, Heston of the Salimanders has a 2+ in power armor and a 3+ invuln to boot. So do you think modeling something in power armor, making with appropriate weapons modelsed to represent Abaddon's weapons, and using Abaddon's rules, would be OK?

I have seen methods out there for upsizing a power armor model so it's larger and more imposing, and I want to try this. I could bling up the armor, to make it look like artiface style armor to help represent the 2+.

Thouhts?

Sounds cool. I wouldn't worry too much about WYSIWYG. You are already doing counts-as, and his other weapons are going to be facsimiles, since I presume he isn't wielding Drach'nyen or the Talon of Horus, either.

Many marines could apparently pass for Alpharius/Omegon, so I wouldn't make him very big.

I do have one suggestion on the fluff side of it, though. You might want to make who or what this character is more mysterious rather than going out and obviously having the Master of the XX Legion. Even if this is a Pre-Heresy army, Alpharius/Omegon would almost certainly want to misdirect or deceive the enemy.

Hm I like that mystry direction you are going in. What exactly are you thinking of, like don't make him stand out so much from the rest of the marines, more blend in?

I have not yet read the books that cover the AL and their primarchs, so I'm not real familiar with how they presented themselves and lead their legions into battle. So any insight would be fantastic.

Thanks.

Yeah, basically! Glad you like the idea. Rule of cool is still to be considered, of course, but compered to the other Primarchs, Alpharius/Omegon were very low key.

I really like the AL, at least in theory. Honestly, the AL are in a similar boat as the Night Lords- their fluff is amazing to the point of absurdity, but since their tactics revolve around unconventional warfare and mindgames, it can be pretty hard to simulate on the tabletop.

I would suggest reading up on the AL- perhaps pick up Legion by Abnett?

One thing to note. If the entry in the codex you're looking to use has terminator armor the model you're wanting to build needs to be on a 40mm base otherwise people might accuse you of shenanigans with the base sizes. Other than the right sized base and a note before the game saying "this is counts-as Abbadon", I don't think there's too much out of the realm of possibility for you there.

Alpharius and Omegon both made it a point to try and not draw attention to themselves. They even had a squad of people that resembled them the most, and everyone pretended to be everyone else. So if I were you, I wouldn't try to make him look any fancier than a line trooper. The only exception is that their stealth armour has a few parts blacked out.
