no...it explicitly said it was the Rosetta Stone.

edit

think I read your post wrong. sorry. yeah the stone was the rosetta stone (yeah lame), and the book was probably the bible, but could've also been any one of the other monotheistic religion books. I think your assumption is most likely correct though (what I notice is that BL/GW in general tend not to put anything else other than Christian references in their material - although Hassan's unit was cool to see as clearly middle-eastern in nature, plus let's give a round of applause to Lucien Soulban with Desert Raiders).

It seemed a bit odd to me that in the year 30000 something there are still guys with Middle Eastern names who also have a sort of Middle Eastern accent. You would think that in that many thousands of years the language would have mutated into something totally different.

As for the book, it could really be anything, it might even be a religion that was formed many centuries after our current date, we've got about 28000 years of history to fill up here!

That can be said about everything in the setting, though, including everything European, American, Latin American, African in the setting, which I'm sure there are examples of. I don't mind that, actually.

Globalization would limit the amount of languages. We can see that in or world now. Most of the world speaks only a couple of languages, compared to 2000 years ago.

despite the perhaps misleading cover and the disappointment of some here on the board, i liked the audiobook. Gave quite a lot of information away, in actual fact.

showing off the doors into hell wherein the emperor battles for humanity on its most important stage.

malcador hints that he is perhaps similar to a couple of other human chaps we have met in HH so far that are immortal? ala the chap from legion and the guy from KNF. Certainly he speaks in first person his memories of things in times potentially tens of thousands of years prior.

sigilittes are an order, not merely one?

he and the emperor's views on certain issues, such as the running of the imperium.

+ couple of other things which escape me..

And from Betrayer

It is actually a different language. High Gothic isn't really Latin. Its an amalgamation of many earth languages that Earth spoke when they first went out into the stars. Yes Hassan had a middle eastern name and accent, but this is only know to our universe. In the fictional universe it could sound like underwater baby talk. While we are hearing middle eastern it could be anything "in universe"

I just finished it and have to say I enjoyed it. I feel the audio dramas are meant to offer an insight into characters, rather than any major advancement on the plot; kind of like an Easter egg. A very expensive Easter egg mind...

They are not the main thrust of the HH series (which is obviously the books), if they gave away major plot points then the book readers who don't get audio dramas would be confused/Internet-rage-enabled!

i thought it offered a lot though, it gives us some hypocrisy from Malcador; protecting enlightenment and restricting information? Also, it makes it quite sad that he wants to protect progress but is responsible for the birth of the inquisition.

I like that it addresses the fact that Malcador and the Emperor should be aware of the original Horus, and that he was to protect his father.

Also, whatever is going on behind those doors is going to be big!

that was some place else though to where the sigillite went i think? would they allow just one copy to exist?

but anyway, massive longshot for those missing legion folk to hang onto. personally dont see why/how the missing legions fit into the storyline of the heresy so they shouldnt be expected to randomly turn up in an audiobook.

This.

Up until the age of strife or so, one can assume that the amount by which a language can change is limited, after all those worlds and colonies get cut off for another few thousand years again, we'll start seeing noticeable language evolution.

But then again, you'll always have a few snobbie intellectuals who decide to keep a language alive or in one specific form for much longer than would naturally be possible.

Wasn't it taken by Corax? Then corrupted and stollen by Omegon?.

Unlikely? I mean, they still got the traitor legion geneseeds stashes away in M41.

While Corax took the original genetic data (all 20 Primarch samples), that doesn't necessarily mean there isn't geneseed from the 2nd and 11th stored in The Sigillite's archive.

Not that I'm saying there is, its just something to bear in mind as a possibility.

Hmm after reading this thread, it strikes me that perhaps the Order of the Sigillite, is their new way of making them Sensei?  Perhaps all Sigillites are the Emprahs biological children.  And with him being in the throne there is no more order of sigillites as he was the only one capable of recognizing them.  Thoughts?

I loved it. I liked that it wasn't some giant splash of action. It really brought home the impact of what Magnus had done. Had Magnus not tried to warn the Emperor, he could have run off and beat Horus down himself, but saving Terra from an unending tide of daemons was, obviously, more important and there was literally no one else to do the job. He leaves that fight only when he absolutely, positively must.

I also really liked how it set Malcador and the Emperor aren't actually in lock-step, just that their goals are the same. Malcador aids the Emperor because it suits his order's purposes, but the Emperor clearly enjoys having something close to a mental equal sometimes. Loved it.

so magnus, trying to save the emperor from horuss deliver a blow against him, make the emperor throw the wolf at him and then horus change the order so weaking the wolf and put the aside and at the same time ading the TS to his forces?

i`m the only one right now who is imaging tzeetch with a martini in his hands(or claws) saying "just i planned, always just as i planned

emperor could well have wanted magnus to return to help him fix the damage he did. He was afterall supposedly the second most powerful psyker in the galaxy after his father.

course sending the 'executioners' who in turn get their orders changed by horus, perhaps not wise.

BL is under no obligation to "finish" writing the Heresy. As with 40k it is a setting. That said however, the Sigillite was very misleading.

<snip> This view he differs with the Emperor on. The Emperor, according to Malcador, feels that it is the duty of any leader to make the necessity of his rule obsolete. Malcador feels that the human race will always need the Emperor and he will rule forever.<snip>

When I reached this point in the audiodrama, I had to rewind and listen to it again.   It is an idea that is expressed and expanded upon in Frank Hebert's Dune series (specifically the last 4 books, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse: Dune).

I believe it is a major component in the God Emperor's "Golden Path".
