Slaughter of the Fangs

So last week I was playing a team game, 1250 points. I was allied with Salamanders and was fighting two armies of Sisters of Battle. More to the point, I was fighting the freakin' Fortress of Redemption. I say this because their lists weren't that strong, but the Fortress just put out so much firepower and shielded so many troops. I could've lived with that, but they had a Krakstrom Missile Launcher in it. I assumed it would be a watered-down version of a normal krak missile.

The krakstorm missile launcher is a S8, Ap3, large blast, ordance, barrage. I had put my 12 Long Fangs behind my ADL. When they fired the weapon at the pack, they said it denies cover and prevents me from going to ground. Because of this, I systematically lost 12 Long Fangs and 10 Grey Hunters.... Also known as most of my army (My terminators died in an unfortunate incident involving six multi-meltas and Gets Hot).

My question is: Were they right? Did it deny me from ever making a cover save? Btw, the center of the blast template was inside the ADL, which is what made me not question it until the end game.

And don't worry, brothers! Despite all that, despite having six models on the board by the end game, I forced them into a perfect tie, blowing up parts of the fortress, killing a warlord and contesting an objective!

You got cheated.

- Nothing prevents you from Going to Ground.  It may deny you a Cover Save, but you can still Go to Ground.  And Barrage doesn't even negate Cover, only offers Cover based on the location of the center hole of the Blast instead of the location of the firing model.

- The shot being Barrage could prevent you from claiming a Cover Save from the ADL, but Going to Ground would still have afforded you a 6+ Cover Save.

Just a tactical point of note: The Missile Silo in a FoR has a minimum range of 18".  Get within that an laugh at the relative ineffectiveness of its other weapons.

Thats what I was thinking afterwards... Even worse, considering the ADL gives +2 to cover when going to ground...

Yeah, thats how I managed to thwart them. My Warlord got the trait which gives outflank, so I outflanked off the board within 18" of their silo. I proceeded to destroy everything in that side of the Fort, including that side of the Fort! Prescience and melta bombs, for the win!

DSWANICK is correct.  the fortress is a killer though.  you need to be up close and personal but you will take fire on the way in.  AV14 really helps it as well.  Im thinking of getting one as a terrain piece for my local gaming club but it would be fun to play with.

Good to go.  It's things like the FoR that keep a pack of Wolf Scouts in my list after the "no charge from Reserve" nerf.  They can still sneak in with Bolters and Melta to light up some back-field targets.
