StrayCatt
Solv-a-set is another product that works well. It is also a one step, vs two step, product. http://www.houseofhobbies.com/sodeseso.html http://delbertsscalemodels.com/DSM/index.php/solvaset-a-quick-guide -Adam Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/272657-alternative-to-micro-solset/#findComment-3325982 Share on other sites
Razblood
Vallejo have something similar in their range to Microsol/set, I haven't had chance to test it yet however. It's Decal medium and Decal Fix. Aqui
Lahmian Medium does the same thing according to the GW website, although I haven't yet tried it myself: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1500290a Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/272657-alternative-to-micro-solset/#findComment-3326326 Share on other sites
Dosjetka
The two pot varnishes from GW (Lahmian Medium and 'Ardcoat) work well enough. First put down a layer of 'Ardcoat. Then apply the decal as smoothly as possible, then to kill the shine and make the decal look like freehand, hit the whole area with a layer of Lahmian Medium. It's not perfect, but it does the job reasonably well. Ramell
The technique that Battle-Brother Ludovic poster will work decently, but transfers won't conform well to curved or irregular surfaces without a decal softener. You'll probably get a few small creases on curved areas like shoulder pads, but if you carefully remove as much of the excess film as possible, it should be entirely invisible at a tabletop distance. Lahmian Medium does the same thing according to the GW website, although I haven't yet tried it myself: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1500290a Lahmian Medium is not like Micro Set/Sol.It's great for finishing off a transfer as it dulls down the shine, which I think is what is meant on the GW website, but it's not a decal softener. Greylocke
Testors has a version of micro set/sol that works great. It's not any less expensive but it is easier to find sometimes. I normally find it in a model train shop. I too tried Lahmian Medium when it first came out and it just didn't measure up. berzerkermike84
Lahmian Medium, also anything that says medium, is used as a shader or ink. you take the color u want(red, black, etc) and mix it with the medium to make a instant inking. im using Americana varnish and mircro sol and they work very well together. iacentemque dominae ad mortem Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/272657-alternative-to-micro-solset/#findComment-3367038 Share on other sites
greendestiny
you can also use white vinegar mixed with water. It does the same thing as the other decal sets and is way cheaper. Bat33.1
Daco products make a range of decal solutions with red being the strongest, much stronger than Micro Sol/Set so for uneven surfaces it's great. Brother-Chaplain Kage
you can also use white vinegar mixed with water. It does the same thing as the other decal sets and is way cheaper. QFT. I couldn't find my MicroSol a while back and just used some thinned down white vinegar.
