Tzimisce169
I have a game on Monday night. 2000 pts, Daemons vs Deathwing. I have no idea what to take and I hate spam lists and I have at least 1 of everything apart from the very new stuff. Help me Bolter and Chainsword-Kenobi, you’re my only hope! P.S. Love you all! Seahawk
Rending will get you through the 2+ armor saves. Heralds with Etherblades will do the same, and monstrous creatures as well, obviously. So basically, Slaanesh and Nurgle will be your best bets. Khorne will bounce off and Tzeentch will make them stronger, though a Lord of Change with +2 strength beatstick might do well. Iron Sage
Against TDA heavy armies, you might want to add a largeish Beast of Nurgle unit to tie them down and give you a breather. Brother Ambroz
If he uses Deathwing Knights, be careful not to send anything with multiple wounds against them because of their special super attack thing. If he uses Ravenwing, try to catch them quickly so they can't get into position to act as a beacon for TDA units. If he goes plasma heavy that won't be too bad as we don't have many normal saves. Another thing to be very careful about is the bolter banner, he can put out enormous amounts of dakka with it so if he uses it be sure to get him with a unit that is fast and denies overwatch, like one of the slanneshi units I think does. Tzimisce169
OK so it's now Tuesday and, as I expected, I lost the game 7 to 9. I actually ended up playing a pure khorne army as my opponent wanted the try out his deathwing against a dedicated close assault army and he requested that I use this army. Not so he could get one over on me but just so he could see what it was like. I also used this list again another mates Grey knights and got royally spanked, however I love playing themed and characterful lists regardless of the fact that I lose most of the time. I could quite easily spam a unit for maximum effect but then I would become that which I hate the most. The army actually ended up being a CSM army with daemon allies and here is what I took: Chaos lord, MoK, Power axe, Burning brand, VotLW, melta bombs, Sigil, GoM (shrouded) 9 berzerkers, VotLW, Power fist, GoM (+1S) Land raider, destroyer. Daemon Prince, Daemon of Khorne, Axe of blind Fury, Wings, Armour 5 marines, Flamer, MoK, VotLW Rhino Blood thirster, 2 greater gifts, 1 lesser gift (+1W, it will not die, fleshbane, armour bane, warp breath) 20 Blood letters, banner of blood, instrument, greater gift (Blade of Blood) 4 Juggernauts, banner of blood, instrument, greater gift (fleshbane, armour bane) Soul grinder, daemon of khorne, Phlegm ARMY TOTAL 2000. Now, against a 2+ save army this army is next to useless, however it was good fun and I did manage to kill 20 of his terminators. What let me down? 1: the juggernauts suffered a DS mishap and vanished back home 2: the blood letters got ripped apart by gunfire before taking a beating in combat by LC termies. T3 really kick you in the pant when your enemy re-rolls to wound. The last 2 vanished after I lost the combat by 9 points. 3: The bloodthirster was man of the match until turn 5 when (at 5 wounds) he swung and had his blow bounce of of storm shields only to take 2 wound from thunder hammers and I rolled a 10 for the stability. Goodbye 3 more wounds and that takes him to 0. On 3 wounds left my 300 points daemon should not suddenly blink out of existence. This rule alone has buggered daemon armies in future any greater daemons will be flying gun platforms or long range psychic monsters. Getting into close combat is just to risky when a grunt with a powerfist could take you out with a single hit and a bad roll.
