Grimtooth
So in 5th edition I use to mess around with a hybrid Loganwing that messed with opponents and was fun to play as well. Beyond my basic list, I am moving to add the necessary units to utilize this idea again. Basically, I consider a hybrid Loganwing the combination of a typical Loganwing with a typical Grey Hunter list. Ideally I ran about a 50/50 match of WGTDA packs and GH packs with the concept that I have my light infantry in bigger packs (GH packs with WG) and heavy infantry in smaller packs (WGTDA). So for example. WGTDA x5 WGTDA x5 GH x10 w/WG GH x10 w/WG In ths format, you have four scoring units, two which are hard as nails and two which are widely considered the best troop choice in the game. Now let's add a little bit more in terms of details and support units; WGTDA x4 w/Logan + drop pod WGTDA x4 w/TDA RP + drop pod Dread (Ven or Reg) + drop pod GH x10 w/PAWG +WP w/SoH GH x10 w/PAWG TWC x3-5 Long Fangs x6 (2ML/3LC) w/WGTDA w/CML Long Fangs x6 (2ML/3LC) w/WGTDA w/CML So now with some minor details and support units added, we see the possibilities of using such a list: 1. Selective drop podding assault: two WGTDA packs down with Dread coming in later or WGTDA + Dread coming down and holding second WGTDA back for later turn objective grabbing or support element. 2. GH packs can vary in which the WP with SOH attaches for outflanking shenanigans to allow for either supporting objective holders or flanking front line assaulting role. 3. TWC serve as a highly mobile support element; both able to move up quickly to support the podding WGTDA or flanking GH pack. Additionally they can serve as a fast unit to clear an enemy off an objective late in the game. 4. Attached WGTDA w/CML add the additional missile fire to the unit which allows an additional LC shot from the unit for higher str/lower ap antiarmor. Now you need to be modest in gear selection to avoid completely overboard in points cost for the army, however with the concept of using close support, you should not feel the sting of being under equipped when facing opponents. In otherwords, things are not so bleak for a WGTDA pack without strength doubling facing something that has a high toughness isn't so bad when there is a dreadnought in close support. Or a GH pack dealing with something similar when a TWC pack with str 10 attacks is in close support. Lastly, the combinations listed above are not set in stone. The dreadnought can easily be switched out with another WGTDA unit that then fulfills the role of a heavy infantry support unit. The TWC can be swapped out for another high speed unit capable of quickly supporting forward units or eliminating a scoring unit later in the game. Thoughts and comments? Rift Blade
I like it. It gives you the basic scoring units with flexibility to deal with different opponents. I like that you consider switching out units like the Dread &/or the TWC as well. Points wise might be a factor but that depends on the size of games played in your area. Would appreciate letting us know how this works out for you. And thanks for sharing. It has given me some ideas to tweak my Logan Wing which is primarily DPing WGTDA with a Contemptor, Logan & a LF pack. Good Luck. Grimtooth
I could only give you examples from 5th right now that I used it with fun and great results. The key concept and fun part is discovering the synergy between units in close support of eachother. Logan and WGTDA with close support of TWC wiping out a deathstar unit using Living Legend. Drop podding my rune priest with TDA and WGTDA unit smack dab in the middle of the board to cast Tempest Wrath against a Daemons player and then setting my other units around the rune priest at the max range of TW to create individual kill zones that my TWC would hop from one to another as the Daemons came into play. Dropped empty pods to form a full gunline with everyone on foot and TWC roaming to support where the line got hit by Orks. Tons of combos, some work awesome and some not so awesome. All part of the fun. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/272759-hybrid-loganwing-eval/#findComment-3327567 Share on other sites
