What about the Scarlet Pimpernels? :P

Crimson Chalice sounds good, but if you want more ideas maybe something like the Scarlet Sisterhood for a bit of alliteration? Are you set on using a colour in the name as a reference to the armour? The red lends itself to blood and martyrdom which is very appropriate for Sisters.

Dread,

How about naming them the Order of the Scarlet Whisper. It could originate from their founder being so devout and faithful that she merely had to glare at her enemy and whisper the name of the Emperor to cause their blood to pour from their eyes and then over they drop dead.

For Russ!

Scarlet Sisterhood makes them sound like prostitutes. tongue.png

I'm gonna throw a second vote behind Order of the Scarlet Whisper though, or maybe Crimson Whisper since scarlet still.. well, yeah. Scarlet Ladies means only one thing.

Nah, we're taking back Scarlett for people who wear red. Just ask the Pimpernel laugh.png

Leave deception to other armies, Sisters are all about the holy trinity applied directly to the face so the enemy knows the face of the Emperor's divine judgement smile.png Some back story would help but until then we can throw around whatever names take our fancy, you never know one might stick tongue.png

A whisper isn't necessarily understated or passive. Those who are truely dangerous or powerful never need to be and usually are not overbearing. Let's take the bar fight as an example. As tempers flare it's always best to take on the guy who is talking loud and making threats. He's scared and his banter is used to mask his nervousness. He's all show. The guy who is getter calmer and more focused as tensions escalate is the guy you want to avoid at all costs. He knows what he is doing and is confident in his ability.

For Russ!

The Imperium's forces are, almost as a rule, truly dangerous, very powerful, and extremely overbearing. Unless screaming "FOR THE EMPEROR!" while you light some civilian's face on fire seems subtle in a way I can't grasp. msn-wink.gif

Being understated and subtle is a very uncommon (and thus significant) thing in an Imperium force. Drop Pods slamming into the battlefield don't really meet the definition of stealth, so if an order of Sisters has been named for such a thing, they're an interesting outlier.

Then again, maybe they can just be creepily meditative about their otherwise large and in-charge methods of slaughter and purging.

I personally think Order of the Crimson Chalice sound pretty freakin awesome. But like others have said, some back story could help with a decision. The one I chose, the lore force Order of the Argent Shroud, is so named because (IIRC) of the marks/impressions their founding Sister left on her death shroud. So even a simple thing like noticing a stain can influence the name an Order takes.

If you don't HAVE to mention the color in the name, just use a few curch sounding terms.

Order of Imperial Glory

Order of the Faithful Light

Order of the Emperor's Deliverance

Order of the Rock (maybe too Dark Angels sounding...)

Order of the Seven Hallowed Wounds

Order of Celestial Hope

Order of Primus Militant Sosoritas (but that joke has been done to death)

Order of the Sanguine Sanctuary

First off thanks for all the replies. Hmm, back story? Let's see. Greylocke and Miko, gonna try something with Crimson Whisper.

On a remote moon colony where the eclesiarchy had set up a very secret convent, Canoness Morganna had been raised. She had been taught that strength came from silence and hard work. As she came of age, she was made temp superior of her first squad. Ther armor was white and well as the robes to show purity. As they were deployed into the first battle, she kept her squad stealthy and silent unit it was timefor unit to pounce. As soon asthe time was correct, her and her unit fought like the veterans of ages past, slaying droves of Orks and only taking cuts and abrasions with no casualties of their own. The armor ran red and hence forth the name of her unit was referred to as the Crimson Whispers. Thru out her early career she was to head many campaigns for the Emperor that the Secret Order she was from finally took it's rightful name as the Order of the Crimson Whisper. Short , I know, But I can dd more later. I guess you see which name I liked the best.

Fibanacci- Thanks for the list, I had been trying to come up with a non color name and may end up using the Seven Hallowed Wounds, I can see some good story coming from that one as well....... After a lengty battle with a chaos champion, she was able to slay it in the emperors name. Her wounds were mortal but her faith carried her thru. When the hospitalar assessed her wounds, there was seven the should have killed her and they became known as the seven Hallowed Wounds to which an order was created. ................I'm not a writer but something along these lines

Depasuarus- I think I got Crimson chalice for a short story in one of the 40k books or old dex. Liked it but sounds like I copied it. Thanks

Thade- you are right war is usually very noisy, Well I'm still open for ideas but will definatly take one of these. Gonna finish painting my canoness tonight and should know the name by then.

Thanks everyone!!

In this case, brevity isn't your friend. It's OK to have your timeline a little more spread out - why does Morganna need to go straight from Novice to Sister Superior? It would make more sense if she spent some time as an initiate/Battle Sister first and come across a lot less mary sueish.

Rather than being specially trained since birth, why not make her fighting style event or personality based rather than plot based? Perhaps as an initiate she went through a Last Woman Standing scenario and had to fight her way back to her own lines using stealth and geurilla tactics. Or perhaps she simply prefers not to speak, or is even mute?

I'm not telling you how to make your story, although it probably looks that way! My point is that trying to rush things too much and including too much 'special circumstance' tends to turn readers off. One of the Laws of Good Writing is that it's OK to use coincidence and circumstance to get your characters into trouble, but they should never be used to get the character out of trouble.

Thanks Miko. Those were just some random rumblings, ya know, for examples. Just a brief blurb to get things in a kinda sense. I will probably not sit and write up a whole fluff story but a brief explanation. I have got old now and playing and painting has taken a front seat to fluff . I really appreciate your input however.
