Seahawk
Played a big team game yesterday and had fun. Now that I'm getting in more games I can see some changes in my thinking regarding my review, but I'll put those thoughts there. For now, this thread is all about the big dice wins and sucks that you've encountered with Daemons. Daemons are all about dicing the game, so there is an awful lot being left to the vagaries of fate. I'll start with some stuff that happened last night! I had a Bloodthirster fulfill both categories. First, it lashed a GKT to death, putting 40 points on its board. Then a Storm Raven came from behind and blasted it for three wounds. On my next turn, it flew behind a recently arrived Caestus Assault Ram and whipped it good, penetrating and blowing it up. Wooo! Whip of doom. Then on their turn a 5 man scout sniper squad, seeing only the meaty fist and wrist from behind a building, scored three hits and two rends. Failed both Invul saves, failed the crash test, failed another Invul save (it had corpulescence)! A most totally unexpected result, and it was the only thing the scouts did all game, but they totally earned their points back, the little blighters. In my very first game with daemons this edition, I used mostly Slaanesh and they completely bounced off Nurgle daemons, and at the end of the game I had been wiped out and he hadn't lost a single unit. Not for lack of trying; he rolled snake eyes twice for Instability...arg! That and he was saving 2/3 on his 5+, then the rest on FNP. Poo. what have you experienced with daemons? Smurfalypse
Have had two games but both were very different as I allied with CSM and used much different stuff both times. First time I had a unit of Furies "Daemons of Slannesh" and a Herald of Slannesh on a Steed completely rule the game. Literally they probably killed 1k points worth of stuff. Herald had the -5 init power and basically just allowed me to go first all the time (even when charging into cover). This was against a BA player. Second game I used Flamers/Screamers/Lord of Change. LoC died first turn because I placed him far out in front and he got dakka'd. Flamers and Screamers killed about 500pts each. They really carried the game and though I lost, it would have been 10 times worse had they not been there. This was against an IG player. What I found was that the troop choice daemons really need the full units to be successful, 10 man units just fold to very little fire. The Warp Storm will usually work in your favor as it hits more enemies than friendlies. Seahawk
Thing I realized last night: Acquiescence only reduces to I1, not 0. Maledictions can only go to 10 or 1. Charging into cover then, you'd both be at I1, sad. This is what makes the Fiends so fiendishly fiendish for combo charges, since they aren't hampered by this rule. It also makes guys with Unwieldy weapons go before the rest of their unit. Now that's entertainment! Smurfalypse
Sweet, well at least it makes ya go simo if you charge into cover. Still pretty decent. Black_Crusader
So, today i had a game against grey knights. No point in going to a lot of details, my opponent's list wasn't any good even for grey knights and he realized it the hard way. He was also a ''little'' unlucky. Anyway, the big score was when at turn 3 his storm raven arrives and shoots my GUO. The storm raven had inside Coteaz, techmarine, purifiers!!! My turn and two grinders shoot their harvesters, i roll two hits with the first one he says i don't evade and i roll two 6'' one of which caused locked velocity, second grinder fires and get one hit, he says no evade and i roll 6 again... Storm raven gets blown up and the only survivors are a couple of purifiers. After that my opponent consided (he didn't manage to kill a single full unit by the way...) Also, in the last three games i used 5 greater daemons in total and one of the greater gifts i got every single time is armourbane/fleshbane if next time i roll 5 on one of my greater rewards i will demand from my opponent to reroll it!!!!! Cheex
I've had some ridiculous luck with this codex so far. In my first game, I had an allied Heldrake fly in and fry a Grey Knight Strike squad, killing seven plus Coteaz (very unlucky armour save). In the next turn, the 'Drake flew over the unit and killed another two, leaving only one model with a psycannon left. In the following Shooting phase, that lone model - being the only psyker left in my opponent's army - was promptly possessed by a Khorne Herald after rolling that fateful 11 on the Warp Storm table. In my second game, I had a big unit of Flesh Hounds plus a Khorne Herald on Juggernaut charge into a GK Dreadknight. Not the best move, since he would be able to instakill them with ease, but I had little choice. Not once, but twice in that combat, I managed to roll double-1s for Daemonic Instability, bringing back several hounds and even the Herald at one point over the course of the combat. In the end, a Bloodthirster glided in to knock out the Dreadknight without even trying. Learn2Eel
I had a Lord of Change roll up Feel No Pain +4, re-roll failed invulnerable saves, and some useless Divination powers - I had to swap one for Prescience as the rest weren't useful in that game (I had the reserves power, the Ignores Cover power, and the Counter Attack power). Not bad at all, right? Well, he took a wound from dangerous terrain on the first turn (I rolled a one, followed by a two, followed by a four, followed by a three - seriously) though I screwed up because monstrous creatures have Move Through Cover and are thus immune to dangerous terrain. To continue the lols, he took a wound from Overwatch against a lucky Dreadnought's assault cannon, was pummeled by the Dreadnought because I charged through terrain, etc. Having failed three saving throws out of four - even with a re-rollable +5 invulnerable save and Feel No Pain +4 - my Lord of Change, after consolidating out of combat, bit the dust from a Drop Pod's snap-firing Storm Bolter and a Terminator Squad's Storm Bolters/Assault Cannon. That is the worst luck I've had with the codex so far, but nowhere near the worst luck I've had in general (my Tyranids own that honour). As far as good luck goes, I had a Bloodthirster survive an entire 1500 point Minotaur armies' shooting.....and be left with two wounds, to which it promptly butchered an entire squad and a Razorback. It didn't kill much, but surviving all that firepower left all of my other stuff free to move up and cause havoc. It was a crushing victory that was under-lined by a Soul Grinder getting locked in combat with Asterion Moloc and an entire Honour Guard unit that, owing to Moloc's Fearless, could neither hurt the Soul Grinder or run away from it.
