Emperors Children marines

Ok, been messing around with a few conversions and painting up an Emperors Children army, well, kind of an army.

I recently got back into 40k, and having read a number of the Heresy books I really was inspired to paint a pre heresy army.

I glued the minis together and deliberetaed which legion colours to go with for quite a while.

The Emperors Children really stood out for me on a number of levels.

I felt their fall was one of the saddest, Fulgrim didnt really know what was happening to him or the legion, and the legion really just followed
him into damnation.

Purple really should not be a legion colour, but damn it in my opinion it rocks, I love seeing the minis on my shelf right now. smile.png

I've got about 20 marines to paint up plus a whirlwind and predator, no paint on the vehicles as yet though.

I have little in the way of true pre heresy minis, just five MKII marines, though I intend to add more Forgeworld minis.

Created most of them from standard current day marines/chaos marines mixed in with Kromlech and Maxmini parts.

The Kromlech and Maxmini parts really are superb parts, I loved working with them and they required little preperation.

Though they aren't "legit" pre heresy mini's I have to admit to being rather pleased with the results. smile.png

I basecoated them in alien purple from the army painter range, then applied a black ink to the recesses, then highlighted with a 1:2 mix of white to alien purple, could even be 1:3.

A final wash of diluted alient purple pulled the colours together.

The gold is a base coat of black, then army painter weapon bromze followed by a brown wash and highlighted with greedy gold from army painter. I applied a very fine highlight of chainmail silver in places to.

Itr really upset me to paint battle damage and mud onto my lovely purple marines, I mean do you really see the Children of the Emperor havimng damaged and dirty armour???? They are meant to be Istvann III betrayed marines though, so I figured the damaged armour suited these particular Emperors Children.

Only a bunch of bolters and heavy bolters to paint up.

And now, the minis, feedback much appreciated, and yes the photos kinda suck but I hope you get the idea of what I'm trying to achieve:

Sergeant or captain, not quite sure yet:

Sorry again about the pic quality, they are sitting on a shelf in front of a bunch of DVD's and I just felt an urge to upload them right now. smile.png

Looks good! Welcome to the Boards, if I may I feel like your marines could use a little more definition, perhaps a little more black to better define the segments in the Armor and an extra line highlight to certain corners of the armor plating to help the lines pop a little more.

Once again though, solid job.

The captain, with extra highlights, sorry about the blurry pics:
