chain axes... acceptable proxy for a chain sword?

I kinda like the idea of mixing some chain axes into my grey hunters squads. This didn't use to be a big deal. But now, we cannot actually take chain axes per the rules (as chain axes are user str, AP4 rather than AP- in 6th, correct?) but I figure, given that we CANNOT take them, then it should be OK to tell your opponent that all "chain" weapons are chain swords (i.e. just a basic close combat attack).

Do you think it would be kosher at tournaments to do this? After all, SW don't HAVE chain axes. The only two potential sources of confusion that I can envisage are 1) If you use frost axes - you need to make them distinct to chain axes (but the same problem already existed for swords) 2) If you have cataphractii terminators - their axes look more like chain axes than power axes!

I think for simplicity I'd just make sure that all frost weapons look more like power weapons and wouldn't use the chain "power axe" bitz on my terminators.

I'm pretty sure that's 5th ed - in 6th, "chain swords" have an entry in the BRB (but they do have the "close-combat weapons" stat line you described - @user str, AP-) and I believe that there's a separate entry for chain axes in the chaos marines codex (which I haven't read yet) making them @user str, AP4.

I may be wrong about chain axes though. I have yet to actually read the CSM dex.

Don't know why you're looking it up in the CSM. That's not the SW codex. CSM Khornites get chainaxes as an upgrade option with an AP4 stat at user strength. No one else gets this AP4 incarnation of chainaxes, so it will revert to a standard close combat weapon per usual til it is either errata'd we get a new codex with our own axes.
