The end of Corax

frankly I think it's pathetic, and would lose all respect for Corax if that happened.

Corax pretty much commited sucicide by going in the Eye of Terror after throwing a "Never more".

His goal was to end it once and for all, clearly.

Well, here I have to disagree.

As long as he is breathing, he's fighting.

Unless your Corax, i think stating what his goal was is a little impossible.

Well, I'm Corax.

When you read the part about his departure, it's not clearly stated because of PG-13, but it's fairly obvious that it smelled suicide.

He does not wish to fight, otherwise, he would've stayed. But he's out of it, "Nevermore" (In Poe's poem, the raven is a clear avatar of death / psychopomp, like it was for the northern paganism), I guess he suffered enough.

Hmmm....TERRA, SHORTLY AFTER EMPS INTERNMENT IN THE GOLDEN THRONE

Corax:

None of you can understand the pain I feel! The pain of having my Legion massacred on Isstvan!

Vulkan:

Actually, I totally get where you're coming from.

Corax:

The pain of having my gene sons warped into grotesque monsters!

Leman Russ:

Really.

Lion'El Johnson:

What are you all looking at me for? I have nothing to contribute to this part of the conversation.

Corax:

The pain of failing my father and seeing his comatose body trapped in a life support system!

Rogal Dorn:

FAILED! NONE HAVE FAILED AS DORN HAS! NONE SHALL ATONE LIKE DORN! (repeatedly punches self in face) FAILED FAILED FAILED!

Corax:

Shut up! I hate you all and I'm gonna go be dark and tormented! So dark and tormented I go live in the only place as tormented as I am...THE EYE OF TERROR!

I'd love to see the barrage of one-star reviews after this one.

"adb is the worst they're changing everything and padding it just to make money, corax would never do that" etc.

As long as you make Horus beat the emperor, as agreed, I'm fine :).

I enjoy the fact that people really think that Corax went to the Eye for another reason, like "Well, nobody can get rid of those traitors, I'll do it... On my own". Makes me laugh.

Anything is better than shooting himself in the head or OD'ing... Leave the story as it has been.

Such overt suicide methods just seem too forced, trying to cash in on the whole depression that Corax recently has been characterised with. Grimdark doesn't have to be decisive and instant gratification.

Better to keep his end mysterious, subtle. It is almost certain he died, but how? A lone figure, walking towards the distant looming darkness... That is how Corax should end. Not something stupid like an emotional teenage suicide at the top of his tower, or a spur of the moment shot to the head. He is too introspective and measured for that, the imagery and motifs surrounding him subtle and not angst-ridden. His death/disappearance should reflect that.

How can you say that stating what his goal was is impossible only 20 keystrokes after stating that as long as he is breathing he is fighting?

Corax is an individual. You cannot say "He would NEVER commit suicide because he is A) a primarch or B) a soldier or C) a leader or X,Y and Z". This would be an intensly personal decision based upon events the magnatude we struggle to get our heads around. Who's to say he doesn't go mad, paint himself orange and proclaim himself king of the potato people before he is killed by his own legion to hide the shame and brush it under the carpet by saying he popped out to the EoT to get some milk, but will return just as we eventually run out.

What might work is if it turns out that during that year in isolation he considered suicide, maybe even tried it once or twice, but was stopped by his Primarch physiology. As such he decided that he should return to his Legion but, as he emerged, guilt madeeach of their faces twist and the memory of the Heresy was too great. As such, while the expectant Raven Guard stood by for a command Corax mkes his way to a Thunderhawk - he can't face his Legion when he let them and the Imperium fall around him, but he also can't take his life. But in the Eye of Terror there lies a chance of vengance and almost certainty of the absolution he craves. Nevermore shall he command or seek to save life, nevermore shall he be anything but a dead man walking, claw and whip in hand, until he finally falls in a Warpstorm or combat or whatever.

Anything is better than shooting himself in the head or OD'ing... Leave the story as it has been.

This. Dying fruitlessly is not Primarch stuff. Even Curze killed himself while proving a point.

As long as Corax can carve his name emo style into another primarchs heart while he's moping around in the EoT then I'll be fine.....oh wait too soon? msn-wink.gif

Oh jeez one by Metallica just came on pandora while I was on this thread...how appropriate

Great song! Personally I would associate it's theme 100% with Fulgrim post daemonic possession:

"Darkness imprisoning me. All that I see. Absolute horror. I cannot live. I cannot die. Trapped in myself. Body my holding cell."

I'd love to see the barrage of one-star reviews after this one.

"adb is the worst they're changing everything and padding it just to make money, corax would never do that" etc.

"don't get me wrong, i understand why dorn was into it, but why add corax just to make it a group thing?"

Just throwing this out there I'd love him to just brust out of the eye and show up on Cadia like Rambo at the end of Rambo II carrying Alpherus bloody head. I get the point you're trying to make but I think it's important to their legends that they are never confirmed dead. I mean Maybe one day Gulliman's sore throat will will be cured, the Lion will sit up with a yawn and be like 'Ahhhhh I feel so much better... I've been asleep how long!?' and Russ, Corax and the Khan will burst from the eye of terror with longer hair and thick beards holding hands and skipping. Or maybe they're all rotting husks outside some temple but I think the not knowing is important. 'Shrodingers Russ' I think someone else said on a similar thread which seems to describe the situation perfectly.

Personally I think it would be hugely out of character for him to off himself. I mean if Dorn doesn't do it and he basically holds his father as he died I can't see Corax doing it.

But primarchs aren't the same (on emo level after emp's death)...Russ went bezerk in the great scouring, Guiliman tried to heal IoM, Dorn was self punishing and Corax went to depression...Like people, they all respond differently when going trough shock...
