Plasma pistol vs. archeotech pistol

Hey brothers,

As the topic says I'm in a jam as to which pistol to choose from for my praetor. I found an extra 5 points in my new list and was wondering if the upgrade from plasma to archeotech would be worth it.

I figured with the plasma pistol I would be hopping out of my spartan to use that beautiful BS 5 to take out at least one guy in the foe's squad or hopefully get a lucky 6 and precision shot a character or VIP due to the ap 2.

However the plasma might fail on me and cause problems in the beginning or the character would pass a successful look out sir! and ignore it.

With the archeotech, I can still kill marines and get a reroll because of mastercrafted, but it runs into trouble with arti armor that's so common to officers and sargents in HH.

What are your experiences and/or opinion?

....as a side note the praetor is in a 15 man blob with chainaxes and their sarge has arty armor and PF, and an apothecary attached to the squad

This entirely depends on what Close Combat weapon you've given him.  I use the Archeotech pistol coupled with a Paragon Blade.  The pistol is to take out the errant Legion trooper while I carve up anything with a tougher armor using the Paragon Blade.  Having an ap2 weapon is never a bad thing, just decide which way you want to access it.

Yep I have the mandatory paragon blade and digital lasers with a combat shield for a cheap invul save as he is riding in a spartan most of the time and will definitely get the 5+ in CC.

The only other options I'm looking at to use the 5 points are either a melta bomb on a tac squad, a fist on a cati termie, a dozer shield on the spartan, or an augury scanner on a ML squad.
