Tournament Batrep, 1st game vs wolves+IG

Hey guys,

I went to a 3 round tournament last weekend and I did pretty well. Here is the first of the three games I played.

My list:

HQ:

Coteaz

Basic Psychic inquisitor, 3 skulls

Elites:

Vindicare

Techmarine with stave, rad, psychotroke, 2 skulls,

Troops:

(x2)henchman: x3 plasma serviotr, x2 jokearo, x7 bolter acolyte

Henchman: x6 DCA(1 axe & sword) x5 Crusaders(all axes)

SS: x10, psybolts, x2 psycannon

StormRaven(LC, MM)

Dreadknight(HI,PT)

Psyfle Dread

Fortification:

ADL+Lascannon

Alright my first game was against Wolves with IG allies:

Objectives: most kill points, slay the warlord, most objectives held out of 5 total

Deployment: Vanguard Strike

His list(not exact):

Wolves:

Rune Priest

30 grey hunters, 2 with dual plasma, 1 with dual melta

5 grey hunters in a rhino and flamer

2 5 man missile launcher long fangs

IG allies:

company command squad

30 man blob squad and platoon command squad

AC heavy weapons team

Vendetta

Manitcore missile Launcher

ADL with quad gun

(apologies for walls of text)

Deployment: I deployed first with my ADL closer to the back to be out of his 24" range, I deployed both shooty squads with an inquisitor in each, coteaz rolled up prescience and the reroll successful saves power. other inquisitor had prescience. My dreadknight and Dreadnought deployed on my left flank.

my SS were DS and my deathcult and Techmarine were in the raven.

His deployment: he placed his aegis line opposite mine, he put the rune priest with the 40 man blob and rolled up the 4+ invuln power and prescience,

the manticore hid behind a building, barely visible to my dakka dread his blob and heavy weapons team were in template formation behind the Aegis.

25 grey hunters were on my left flank, the other 10 on my right flank.

My first turn: my monkeys both gave +12" to both squads, to start with my dreadnought moved to get a better view of the manticore, my dreadknight jumped forward, and roasted 7 guardsment, later failing his charge, not getting hurt by overwatch.

My dreadnought strips a hp off the manticore and prevents it from firing(THANK GOD) my vindicare fails to wound the rune priest(should've used the shield breaker).

one henchman squad kills all but one of the long fang squad. while the other wounds the grey hunters on my right flank, I didn't kill much but i prevented him to hurt me.

His turn one: he spends his entire army shooting, minus the grey hunter squad on my right to bring my down my dreadknight( which kept my real threat, my henchman safe)

Turn two: my raven comes in, but not my ss. It speeds on to get at that manticore, my dread moved back to shoot at grey hunters, my storm raven wrecks the manticore, while one henchman squad wrecks on the blob and the other on the other long fang squad, killing it.

His turn two: he moves his blob of grey hunters forward, rolling up skyfire on an objective he captured(great...) he runs the rhino behind a buidling near another objective closer to my lines. he controls two to my one objective. he then fires the quad gun, the heavy weapon team, and the grey hunters to only take a single hull point off the raven. the right grey hunters run towards me, shooting one acolyte.

turn 3: Pain time. my henchman get out, my storm raven shoots psyk out missles, killing the rune priest, my henchman squad finishes the other long fangs and the other kills the rest of the grey hunters on the right, with the platoon command squad next to them in tact. next, my henchman+techmarine squad assualt both the blob squad and the rear grey hunters squad. they kill most of the grey hunters and a coupte ig, the hunters flee.

his turn 3: his grey hunters auto rally even within 6" of my guys (6th edition...) he shoots at my raven, not killing it and the 5 man grey hunters captured other free objective. in combat, the grey hunters recharged, I killled them off, the blob stood their ground, the two remaining long fangs move towards his base objective.

my turn 4: my strike squad comes on, shooting at the 10 man grey hunter squad, the dreadnought blows up the rhino blocking the 5 man squad on the objective, my henchman squads mop up lone survivers. my henchman sweep the blob in combat moving towards his base objective(which is worth triple points to me.

his turn 4: his vendetta comes on, killing 3 strike knights, shoots at my deathcult with the two long fangs, which does no damage and moves his company squad by the wrecked manitcore towards my deathcult, not much he can do at this point,

my turn 5: i wipe him off his objective, shoot at the platoon command squad, killing them.

his turn 5: consolidates his wolves on his two objectives.

game ends, the total is 4 objecttive points for me to his 2(i had two objectives, but his base objective was worth 3 points) i had slay the warlord and more kill points. I get full points 25 out of 25 for this game out of a total 75 for the day. things are looking good for me at this point.

My next game's batrep is tomorrow, vs a gk with necron ally list, which is a doozy.

Hope ya'll enjoyed, this being my first batrep on here, please give me your C&C smile.png

Nice work. This kinda matchup really demonstrates why shooty Henchmen (in particular the plasma servitors) are so insanely cost-effective. Worth their weight in gold against a MeQ spam list like this. Lol at the mindstrikes wiping the Rune Priest.

I was at this same tourney and I will say that if i pulled half the stunts you did i easily could pull out a victory as well.  I will say your opponent showed amazing restraint during the issue when you did not have your Lascannon on the board when he deployed Marbo and then decide to put it on and shoot him.  The part where you rolled for your Jokearo and he didn't see it and you magically rolled double ones was epic as well.  The game in general looked as though your opponent was on the defense against your constant shenanigans and trying to get one over on him.  I will applaud you for your tactics, rolling, and luck during that game as luck was most certainly on your side in that game.

On a separate note, i like your list and thought it should have done better in the tourney.  Was expecting to see you place but i guess it wasn't so.

Not such a huge concession. He paid for it in his army list, forgetting to put the gun on the table is a minor oversight at worst.

Cool story. His opponent could've asked for a re-roll if he didn't see it. Its entirely possible Zeratul29 did roll that btw

That's normal against a Henchmen list. It's full of legit shenanigans.

Talk about backhanded compliments...

I actually did have the lascannon on the field when he brought marbo in, he put marbo down right behind the lascannon

And honestly, it's not a ridiculous list, hordes demons will do well against it,

Also I was very lucky to get rolls, I did legitimately get them, those squads henchman squads never wiped barely half a unit in one turn

@Tiecon,

Were you Zeratul's opponent? or the opponent's friend? I ask because this whole thing stinks like sour grapes man. Unless my phone can't see your entire profile, it seems you created an account and immediately found this thread and posted your thoughts... just looks sideways is all.

Sorry for off topic. Anyway...

Nice win Z. Thanks for the BatRep, and hope to see the rest.

Cheers

As a matter of fact it was by mere coincidence that i found this post.  I just recently picked up some grey knights and was reading through trying to learn a few things on them.  I saw this post and thought to myself, "why would that guy post a batrep on that game?" and felt a moral obligation to at least set the record straight.  As soon as i read it i knew it was that game in particular and felt that it should be said that it was not a fair game.  Thus the reason i created this account and will most likely never use it again.  Yes i was with his opponent that day and maybe it does make me a little bias in the eyes of those who were not there.  That game was tense from the get go and his opponent (and a friend of mine) had to constantly keep his composure against things he was doing.  To touch on IndigoJack's comment, I by no means care to resolve any issue via internet as i don't really see this as an issue.  I will see Collin at Asgards, the upcoming Fat Ogre tournament, or even at Montags if he makes it down that way and will speak with him about it when i get a chance.  For those of us that were at that tournament, i can say it was unorganized and lopsided in the officiating.  As a matter of fact, if the tournament was such a success for Collin, he could have stayed to congratulate the Necron/Grey Knight player who won (great guy btw, and i learned a ton off him in the few minutes i got to talk to him) but did not and left as soon as he knew he had no chance of placing.

Lastly, its not my conscience that is straining here.  I lost every game i played at that tournament, but i made the game enjoyable for my opponent.

Thank you for your time.

Hmm seems Darius was at this tournament as well... so what was your observation of the games?

Dunno, wasn't there.

Hey guys, don't be so harsh. That sounds completely legitimate. I too randomly find games I've played by searching army-specific forums.

Hey, no judgement man. I'm sure you can remain completely objective about a match you lost in. Spirit of the game, right?

By the same logic, perhaps the winner didn't deserve to win either? I'm having trouble seeing your point here.

Ouch. Nope, definitely no bias here.

Thank you for your time.

No, thank you. I'm rarely this entertained anymore.

Uh oh Z... he called you by NAME on the internet!!! Two more of your names and you'll have to do his bidding! or at very least end up in the...

Grimoire of True Names thumbsup.gif

Anyway, he should crawl back under the bridge he came from. Just remember to post up the rest of your BatRep. I am trying to build a 6th ed list, so all the BatReps I can steal info from is pure gold.

Cheers

I love this thread on so many levels. A great Batrep that turns into a nice trolling flamefest! msn-wink.gif

I like the list a lot, how do you find the DCA/Crusaders coming out of the raven? Does your raven usually die after it drops into hover?

I'm also curious about this. How do you handle the lack of frag grenades?

Haha, yeah the raven dies sometime, depends on what is left alive. And that's what the tech marine is for to give frag grenades, plus the storm shields I put in front to take wounds from over watch and high initiative

Plus whatever gets assualted by it usually dies, because of the sheer ridiculousness of them

Yeah, the Tech-Marine makes them pretty insane. Raven means they charge on the turn they disembark from it, he gives them frags, and he stacks rad+'Hammerhand' to give them effective S6 on swords and effective S7 on axes. Plus he can tank enemy sarges with his warding stave, and poke them to death with the AP3 attacks he has (maybe).
