Raven Angel
I disagree that a 7.62 slug should be S4 because standard bolter which are .60 or .70 caliber high explosive mass reactive rounds are only S4 and the stories talk about near misses with those pulping internal organs from the shock waves. Even a .50 caliber slug would have trouble matching that destructive power. S3 for the weapon as described is appropriate. That said they should have devised a more destructive gun. The Rotor cannon as specked out seams to fit better with scouts or IG. It just feels like it lacks the moxy of a true Legion support weapon. At the least ROF needs doubled. depthcharge12
It's odd though because the bolt should blow past even Tau FW saves but I guess the higher strength represents the concussive waves Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273143-rotor-cannons-any-good/page/2/#findComment-3337832 Share on other sites
spu00sed
I have t admit that I don't see the point of the rotary cannon, or the flamer, for support weapon squads If you want to take out light infantry use bolters and fury of the legion for extra kicks. For me it is plasma all the way, help deal with heavy infantry, which bolters struggle with. If you're willing to pay the points then they are nasty  Worth it to panic your own unit off the board de to overheats. Haven't been ble to do that since the lost and the damned list. Happy times breaking your own units whilst trying to kill one or two enemy models Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273143-rotor-cannons-any-good/page/2/#findComment-3337859 Share on other sites
Kingofturves
Looking at how Heavy Stubbers have Range:36 Strength:4 AP:6 Type:Heavy 3 (Main rulebook)and how Rotary Cannons are described as being multi-barrelled stubbers. I'm surprised the rotary cannon isn't more similar to a heavy stubber with a higher rate of fire. Then again stub guns and autoguns only have a strength 3 and AP -.So is the Rotary Cannon in the forgeworld list, a sort of mixture between these weapons. The bullet type and size of autoguns, but with between armour penetration and range, similar to the heavy stubber, with a higher rate of fire power when stationary? Strength 4 can become useful when dealing with extreme light armour as it's the entry level for glancing armour 10 targets to death. Strength 3 is much more of a generic anti infantry weapon when used on mass. Okay against imperial guard and eldar, but not so good against Space Marines.
