BAtRep! DA VS Tau

Hi guys, It's that time again for a Batrep.

Last time I drew Diagrams in MSPaint, but it didn't seem to impress to many people. Maybe it was my crappy drawing, maybe it was becasue I lost to those mangy Space Wolves (I punished myself severely). Anyway, I decided to give it one more go.

Hopefully this one is better.

We rolled Objectives and seconddary objectives with table corner deployment

The Board

Pretty straight forward.

His Army.

I cursed their dirty xenos faces.

My Army.

This was my second game and I wasn't sure about my army build, but I had painted all of the models and wanted to use them anyway.

This was the Deployment.

I held the Knights with my Lib in reserve and he held one unit of fire warriors in reserve.

I rolled to go first. He tried and failed to take it from me.

DA Turn 1.

Deathwing assaulting on the first turn my Knights dropped down with minimal scatter.

The speeders moved to a good shooting position and shot one of the devilfish, with the help of Librarian Eschiel's Div power it blew it up in a massive fireball, sending firewarriors flying out. Giving the Dark Angels FIRST BLOOD!

One of my combat squad moved up into the treeline and rapid fired the kroot that had infiltrated, killing a few.

My two combat squads with missile launchers didn't move and shot at, and failed to kill one of the devilfish.

Brother Nathanial moved forward and entered a tall stand of trees.

And... my last squad moved toward an objective.

Tau Turn 1

The Broadsides shot at and hit Brother Nathanial twice with their rail guns, then rolled double 1's to pen! The Emperor protects!

The remaining Devilfish deployed it's Firewarriors. Along with the Firewarriors that had been blown out of their vehicle and rest of his army, they shot at killed both speeders.

The Kroot bravely charged the Deathwing Knights, hoping to hold them in combat for at least a round. Unfortunately for them, they misjudged the effectiveness of the veteran Unforgiven and fled after more then half of them lay dead on the ground.

DA Turn 2

One of the combat squads moved to the first objective. They then rapid fired the remaining Kroot and with a little help from another squad killed the remaining xenos.

Both missile Launcher squads shot at and hit the Xeno command squad, which failed to move far enough away. With his shield drone and bodyguard dead the command feared for his life. (He had mistakenly though his commander was closer and had died, I corrected him, having him remove the drone instead)

Brother Nathanial shot at, but failed to pen the remaining Devilfish.

Eschiel and the Knights charged one of the Firewarriors units, killing them to the man. They consolidated toward the enemy commander.

Tau Turn 2

Wisely, the Xeno commander retreated to better cover. He, along with the newly arriving firewarrior unit, hammerhead and the remaining firewarriors shot at and only managed to kill 1 Deathwing Knight.

The Enemy Broadsides shot at and pen'd Brother Nathanial, causing him to only make snapshots next turn.

It wasn't looking good for "the greater good".

DA Turn 3

Two more Tac Squads took objectives, giving me three. The remaining unit moved up toward the enemies deployment. They all shot at and killed 1 firewarrior.

Brother Nathanial shot at and failed to pen the Devilfish.

The Deathwing Knights moved and then charged both the broadsides and the new Firewarriors unit. Activating thier maces the combat was brutal and bloody. When it was over the little that remained of both units fled off the table, without inflicting 1 wound in return.

Tau Turn 3

Turn 3 for the Tau brought another full volley of fire at the Knights. This time one fell, but it wasn't enough.

With my turn about to start, I told my opponent I would just charge his last unit of fire warriors and deny him his only objective. With that done (and my first blood) there was no chance of him winning the game. He agreed and we shoot hands.

Final score Dark Angels 4 Tau 1

************* Mission Log **************

Holding the retrieved archive core they had fought for Brother Tyllos walked back toward his unit. The mirrored sphere seemed more complex then most things he was used to and he wondered if it was even of imperial design. As he walked something called out to him.

In a huge pile of broken bodies he saw it. It was one of them.

Marine Tyllos looked down at the wounded alien. Having been a newly indoctrinated battle-brother, he had never seen one of the strange creatures and a odd fascination held his eyes. Like him it had two eyes and a mouth, but no visible sign of a nose. It's pale blue skin was covered in droplets of what could only be the creatures blood. Curious he thought, as the little being tried to mouth some incomprehensible word. Perhaps it was pleading for it's life, he thought. Maybe cursing us to whatever hell it's people believed in, he wasn't sure.

Whatever the thing had been trying to communicate to him was cut short as the the immense shadow of Brother-Librarian Eschiel was case over them. The Terminator-clad psyker stood over them, blocking out the dimming light of the planet's only star.

Tyllos tried to look the Librarian in the eye but his gaze cut into him, forcing him to look down.

A thunderous concussion erupted and the small blue creature's body vomited outward in every direction.

And then, almost as a whisper Tyllos heard, "Suffer not the Alien, Brother.", before the lumbering figure of the Librarian turned and strode away.

******** End Log ********

Like I said before I don't get to play a lot, and this was only my second game. Hopefully I did good.

until next time, thanks for reading!

Very classy!  Props for your victory, doubly so for maintaining good sportsmanship in the process!

Good stuff!

I think keeping the unit key at one side of the maps would help, but either way they're simple and clear: perfect.

Congratulations on the win, too msn-wink.gif

Yeah, that would definitely be a help!

Also, it might just be the map scale, but it looks like one of your tac squads deployed way far forward?

Either way, excellently played Brother! I enjoy reading the reps, even if I don't usually comment. :)

Thx for the feedback, I'll work on a legend in the future.

As for the deployment, it was vanguard strike deployment. I crowded the deployment line and he castled in the back.

Thx. The game is about having fun (on both sides). Winning is great, but not at the expense of cheating or moral grey areas.

I agree - props to you for your sportsmanship! Very good batrep - nice and clear. If you plan on doing this regularly you could always look at using a different programme to make it easier on yourself. You could even use Vassal if they still have a 40k set, as that might allow you to move the models around and then screen grab the battle.

Anyway, I hope you get another game in soon as I'm looking forward to another report!
