Sir Caverstein
Hi, my name is caver and im a wargamer. I always felt the need to make my own story within the 40k universe and god knows i have tried. So today i bring you this, the adventures of a bunch of templars in a weird planet trying to answer to a distress call from a space marine chapter. This is just a small character introduction: The Fiery Heart Crusade Chaplain Elver watched as his crusader squad decimated the orkz that had been so foolish to ambush them in the jungle near the help signal they had received. A foolish idea indeed he thought as he crushed another ork head with his crozius arcanun, the hardbringer of the emperors holy will against this abomnations. His squad members were not bad either, brother Ulrico "the lion" had cut cleanly throug more than a dozen orkz with his chainsword, brother Jan of t'epe ardente was not far behind Ulrico. In fact Jan and Ulrico were famous among the fighting company for competing to see who was a better duelist in battle and were closely tied in kills. Ulrico had 565 and Jan 570. Though Ulrico always marked that it was unfair, since Jan had a power sword. And Jan reminded Ulrico that much of his kills had been with pistol bolts instead of proper dueling. A thing Ulrico staunchly denied. Chaplain Elver thought that the whole concept of a "brother vs brother competition to see who slaughtered more enemies of the emperor" was sort of stupid. Since it was unity rather than competition what could bring the true enemies of the emperor down. Yet he had to admit that said competition had had its results. Both Jan and Ulrico were close friends actually, and their competition made them both the most assault willing members of the company. Some even called them Bash Brothers, since it was actually impossible to see one without the other in combat. Besides the bash brothers, Elver could also see brother Nagat, the hunter. Silent as always, wielding his chainsword and cleaving opponent after opponent with calculated precision. Nagat had been an excellent hunter in his homeworld of Tharaxia before becoming a member of the proud chapter. In fact, he still wore the tail of the wolf he had hunted a long time ago and he considered his greatest succes as well as the knives he had used to hunt it. Though he rarely unseated them in combat. Sporting an imperial aquila in his chest and accompanied by his neophyte Garmont was brother Galant who considered himself the most honored member of the squad since he war the only one wearing a proper aquila in his chest and who had been assigned a neophyte in the squad. Although to be fair he was the only one who had ASKED for a neophyte to train. Yet he was full of himself speaking about what an excellent neophyte Garlan was, and how proud he was to be his mentor. Elver had to admit the boy learned fast and Galant was truly a good teacher. Pious and zealous. At that moment they were double teaming an exceptionally large ork with brutal succes. While Garlan stabed the ork in the legs inmobilizing him Galant made one last strike with his chainsword t the head of the beast and a moment later the beast was no more. With what elver considered a little shade of envy this was watched by yet another brother of the squad, Maxwell who had also demanded a neophyte since he was also an excellent marine. Actually the nly one who had been given the honor to wear a brand new mk 8 power armour suit. Honor Elver was giving Maxwell when they recruited new neophytes for the company. Finally there was a black blur leaving cut after cut into the upcoming orks. That was none other than brother Hambei, the best duelist in the company. So much that ulrico and Jan had never actually added him to their kill games since none liked to be bested by what they had qualified as a white haired pretty boy. But mocks aside Hambei was the best they had in the squad for close combat has Naga was their best ranged weapons expert and the two had no actual rivalry whatsoever. And last but not least Marshall Stannis had decided to give them one of his own household to accompany the squad. Brother Argos one of the oldest and most venerable members of the fighting company. Actually Elver and Argos had been in the same crusader squad before Elver had been called by the chaplains to join their brotherhood. Now they reunited and in the end, Elver thought that he too had a rival in the squad. Sir Caverstein
Yep mk viii Here it is http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/9/96/MkVIII_Errant.jpg My idea is build a model for each one of the members of crusader squad Elver. I do have models for Elver, Jan, Ulrico, Galant and Maxwell. Im working on Hambei since i want to get a nice rapier like sword, also on Naga since i'll give him a custom bolter(his model right now has a plasma pistol) and on Argos whom i have only chosen his head Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273339-the-fiery-heart-crusade-adventures/#findComment-3337279 Share on other sites
Sir Caverstein
Second part, the discussion betewn Maxwell and the bash brothers wasnt planned like that but really it just evolved into said argument. Thanks to the efforts of Garmont and Galant who had slaughtered what semed to be the leader of this ork gang. Finally squad Elver came out on top, as every one expected. Elver then proceded to ask Maxwell, who was the auspex operator in the squad, to bring a new analisis of the area. In the midtime he heard Ulrico and Jan start counting the dead? This time Ulrico had killed no less than 17 and Jan 14 which narrowed even more the small gap that separated each other. Hambei was congratulating garlan and galant for their kill on the ork boss remarking to Garmont the importance of slaughtering the leader of the enemy in battle and citing him some of the duels that had decided the chapters victories in that fashion. Though Garmont marked that it had not been a duel, since it had been 2 marines against one. Yet brother Argos also entered the discussion and marked that actually kills by duel were a tminority of the cases and specially against ork bosses whose martial skill and prowess was somewhat amazing for such a heretic being and that had Garmont or Galant engaged the boss head on and alone then probably there would be one less member of the squad. "Heresy" thought Elver, no filthy xenos scum could even compare to one of the emperors finest or maybe even their neophytes. But he had to concede after he reminded that Argos had ascended into the Sword Brethen of marshall Stannis thanks to his efforts during the war of Armaggedon where he had watched dozens of brothers die to filthy xenos so maybe he was right up to a point. In fact Elver himself was a veteran from Armageddon and it was there to that he had been ascended to chaplain hood after an ork rokkit blew half his head. That should have killed anybody but Elver was not anybody, he was a space marine. He survived, he endured and in the end he triumphed over death. After some operations he was given bionics to replace for the right part of his head. And thanks to those bionics which where grim in themselves he had no need to wear the skull helmet. His face was not only a reminder of death as the helmet but also of TRIUMPH over death. What could inspire fellow templars more than that? Elver was lost on his thoughts when suddenly Maxwell came with the auspex report. There were 3 signals. One was from another black templars squad. Probably squad Rauch, who had also been deployed in this jungle planet, but whose drop pod had scattered to much from squad Elver's location. Another one was an ork signal, probably their headquarters, if those filthy xenos even knew the concept of headquarters. And a third one which was probably from the marines that had brought them to that planet in the first place. Elver wondered which was the best signal to approach. Rauch squad was the farthest, the ork HQ was probably not the best choice considering that his squad was not big enough to take on such an emplacement. It wasn't even at full strength, brothers Arragant, Helbram, Argalac and their flamer expert Pyro, were all in the appotecarion recovering from the wounds they had sustained in their last campaign. Unluckily for squad Elver had been deployed into the first assault trough the breach of the enemy cultist temple. It had been a dangerous mission though a well worth one to get rid of the emperors greatest enemies, and it was a great honor to be the first to spill their blood as Argalac remarked when they were informed that such a dangerous mission would fall into their jurisdiction. Though it had been Helbram the most pious(even before the aquila wearing Galant) who gained such honor, and paid dearly as his armed was blown of by a plasma tarantula cannon, though that just slowed him. The third signal was close to the orkish one, which made it pretty dangerous for the marines to approach without drawing the attention of the orkz. It was a tough choice. Reuniting with squad Rauch could severely slow them down, and they were also risking getting ambushed again. But going for their other marine brethren also meant walking dangerously close to the enemies nest. In the end Elver decided to do something that only rarely if ever chaplains did. Submit the next operation to vote. " Listen battle brothers, brother Maxwell here has brought me a report over our current location and possibilities for next move" "And" asked Ulrico eager as always to make a move "It is a complicated situation brother Ulrico, squad Rauch is several kilometres away from us. It could take us ours to approach their location. And we would have to walk through this jungle which has proven not to be a safe place for our brethren. The other possibility is going directly to the location of the distress signal. The problem is that said location is very close to the ork emplacement. Which is also dangerous considering our squad current standing. "Why don't we just engage the enemy on their on ground, they wouldn't be expecting us? Isnt that our mission, to deliver the emperors fury every time?" Answered Ulrico, as always guided by his battle lust. " Yes, i cannot wait to give you the head of the ork warboss as a gift brother" added Jan. " Giving me the warboss head, more like being given said head by me" answered Ulrico to Jan's bravado. " Brilliant, just brilliant, you two. Charge recklessly into an enemy emplacement, after we lost 40% of our fighting for a similar action, that was actually part of a planified move with assured land and air support. We are the emperors finest, not his suicide saints." Said Maxwell exasperated by the bash brothers insane bravado " Heresy!!!" Said Ulrico, though Elver knew he wasn't really accusing Maxwell of heresy. It was just that Maxwell's common sense used to crash with Ulrico's and Jan's zeal. If it could be called zeal really. " Yes, is your faith in the emperor so weak that you don't believe that we can storm a filthy Xenos bastion without suffering loses, are you forgetting that our armour of faith is impregnable." Added Jan to his brothers statement " My faith, is just as good as yours, but my common sense is remarkably better" " Common sense, common sense. I call it cowardice" said Jan " Yes, I havent forgotten that you spent more time as a neophyte than either of us. Tell me was that due to your "common sense" " ulrico seemed really just trying to provoke Maxwell into a fight. " I spent more time than either of you as a neophyte because my mentor actually enjoyed my company. And if you think that having spent more time in such states makes me less skilled with the sword let me show you" maxwell was drawing his chainsword. Elver looked around, besides those three everybody seemed trapped in his own world. Hambei was practicing his fencing, garmont and galant seemed to be thinking about the possibilities for their next move. Probably Galant was trying to use it as an example to teach Garmont about difficult tactical decisions. A discussion Argos was listening with some interest, though their was nothing the initiate could teach him he didn't knew. And naga was on top of a tree cleaning his precision bolter. In the end it was Naga who cut the ridiculous discussion turned into sword fight short with a bolter shot that stroked right in the middle of Ulrico and Maxwell. " You can discuss about zeal and sense elsewhere. Today we have work to do." Ulrico and Maxwell stopped fighting abruptly, they both knew the next shell could be lethal "In my tribe whenever we had a difficult decision in the end it was the elder who decided" "Yes but he left said choice to us" replied Maxwell " He is not the only elder" said Naga as he looked to Argos. " Ok, it seems like there is no other option, tough i really wanted to watch a good duel, it seemed promising" Argos said as he stood " From my point of view approaching the distress call is our most immediate objective. From there we can communicate with squad Rauch, and probably the marines stuck in that emplacement are in need for reinforcements more desperately than chaplain Rauch and his men." " But sir, the danger" said Maxwell. " Hey sensible guy, have you ever heard of something called camouflage. It was quite common in my days" " Heresy" said Jan " It's not heresy if it's a necessity. More so if said necessity is to fulfill the emperors will and help our brothers" Argos said as he dropped a giant leaf to Jan's head.
