TheDarkOne
Hello... Take Skyshield landing pad... big unit of horrors... herald of tzeentch with grimoire of true names... roll a 3+ for grimoire... indestructible horrors... 2+ rerollable invul save! Putting a unit of tzeentch marines surrounding the horrors on the pad also = win. SHAZAM. Fibonacci
As long as they are not assaulted (sky shiled works against shooting only) on the same turn that the herald rolls a 1 or a 2 (-1 invulnerability save) they can sit up there with an objective as well as any nurgle could. All for the low cost of a 165 point investment. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273347-cruel-and-unusual/#findComment-3336998 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
Isn't the Tzeentch "Mark" a re-roll of armour saves? Or does it say cover and invulnerable saves also? I haven't got my book handy. If it's the latter then all is rosey (and sickening in equal measure!). If it's the former then it's a useless Mark most of the time but hey, a 2+ invulnerable still makes my lips salivate! Fibonacci
Reroll 1's of all saves. Cover, armor and invulnerable. The rule says "reroll all saving throw results of 1." As long as it is a saving throw you can reroll the ones. Malicious Manticore
To the best of my knowledge an Invuln save can't be any better than 3+, but I don't have my rulebook in front of me, so I can't really confirm it right now. Even if the max Invuln is 3+, that's still amazing. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273347-cruel-and-unusual/#findComment-3337033 Share on other sites
Brother Ambroz
In C:CSM, the MoT can't get any better than 3++ but I'm not sure about C:CD. There are 2++ saves out there, just look at a Dark Eldar archons. Sception
CSM MoT specifically doesn't contribute to inv. saves if the total save would be better than 3++, but 2++ saves are possible. If you can get a 4++ on a daemon without using the MoT, ie from a skyshield or the like, then the daemon book of names can upgrade that to a 2++. minigun762
It would be fun but it suffers the same fatal flaw as any Horror deathstar unit, it's too easy to shut it down by simply assaulting it. No chance for overwatch, trash unit in HtH and if you lose combat (which is likely) you're taking stability wounds. Even if the assaulting unit dies, it's still stopped you from shooting. Nehekhare
since the skyshield is a fortification and objectives cannot be placed on fortifications... of what use is a scoring (granted, nearly indestructible) unit with mediocre 24" shooting in your backfield? could keep them in reserves until turn 5 (truely indestructible) with rerolls and then walk onto the field as well... jifel
Or, just put them behind an Aegis line. Go to ground when needed, for that 2++ cover save, rerollable. Easier to get, cheaper, and not dependant on a Grimoire. Plus you can have an objective nearby. Nehekhare
or just get plague bearers ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273347-cruel-and-unusual/#findComment-3339475 Share on other sites
Marshal Goderic
or put the objective UNDER the landing pad, still within 3" of a troop standing on top of the pad. Kastor Krieg
Or right behind for that matter. And since you can place the fortification on your HALF of the table, put it forwards, pick C:CSM as Allies, have Ahriman or Huron as HQ and infiltrate that mother Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273347-cruel-and-unusual/#findComment-3350237 Share on other sites
Godhead
I don't think as allies that you can infiltrate units since Ahriman or Huron is not the warlord. They would have to be in the primary detachment. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273347-cruel-and-unusual/#findComment-3350488 Share on other sites
Makers
There are multiple way to get a 2++ save on units, but I agree that having 1 unit of horrors go to ground behind the defense line for the 2++ re-rollable is the most cost efficient method. Just remember to keep one model on the edge so that he has line of site so he can shoot. And yes, if order for the CSM to infiltrate, it has to be in the primary detachment I believe.
