Hi guys,

 

It's me again.. here to give you some more DA goodness. I really like coming here and seeing other peoples projects. It really inspires me to improve mine or just to be more involved in the hobby.

 

So after the new codex release I've dusted off the old landraider in my closet. It was the standard Lascannon/H. Bolter green monstrosity that I never seemed to find the points for.

 

But after my new found fascination with painting and the new codex I though I'd give it a good make over.

You can see that I went with a Deathwing paintjob. After looking at other Landraiders I've really taken a liking to the color. After searching through my old bits I found all the pieces to the hurricane bolters, but failed to find the other side panel. Damned Gobbos musta stole it. Anyway, with a little conversion magic it seemed to work out.

I threw a little bits on it trying to give it that real Deathwing feel.

For some reason I can't master the small text look with a paintbush. It always looks mushy and wrong. Luckily I found a cool paint marker in my local craft store. I think the text doesn't look that bad.

The Front still needs a little bit of touch up on the lights.

 

Speaking of that anyone know a good dirt tutorial? I wouldn't mind making the tracks look muddy.

The Standard of Devastation inside + three tac units = 132 shots if you don't move. That is a lot of Dakka!

 

I think you totally could get more in there, but i don't think it's as practical points wise (you still need heavy support).

The Land Raider with the Standard set-up. I never seemed to play with it this way. Do you guys? If so, wouldn't a dev unit be better?

Adding magnets to his torso I wanted to make him easier to transport and easier to mark as destroyed. The banner is an after thought that I'me currently working on. It too is magnetized.

Former Grand Master of the Angels, Brother Nathanial sleeps in an unending discomfort waiting for the moment he is needed. I think I have a fluff problem.

RAWR! so far he really hasn't paid for himself in a game yet or really been effective in anyway, but I can't seem to NOT use him. Forgeworld did such a good job making him!

So I might have went a little overboard with the magnets on this project. With so many options it just didn't seem like there was a choice. Of course.. I could be wrong :P

I shaved off the standard aquila and added a DA symbol. It seemed to add flavor.

You can see the magnets if you look on the speeders side. Not perfect, but good enough for the girls I date, as my grandpa used to say. On a side note... old people are weird.

I even added magnets on the stand. It seems to help when moving them on the table.

This was my last finished project. With Librarians so cheap and useful I found it hard not to make him a priority to paint. I thought about converting is force weapon to an ax of sword, but didn't. what do you think? A sword or ax better in a standard army?

A different angle. After seeing it on a tutorial I used a toothpick to paint his eyes and mouth. It was massively easier then a paintbrush.

Part II

 

Command Vets

 

How do you equip your vets? I was thinking, Apoth, Standard, Champ and 2 vets with storm shields in front to soak damage. Of course this could change but it's nice to have the models.

Shaving down some chaos shields (which look really cool as stormshields) I modded a few vets. Of course they need paint and I think I'll add some forgeworld DA symbols to the shields instead of free handing something on them. what do you think.. good or bad?

My Standard. Free handing is really hit or miss. so I read about using tracing paper as a template.. I haven't tried it yet, but it's an idea. How do you guys do it?

His backside. I gave him a stormshield too. For such an expensive model he really needs protection. I used one of the pain pens on it, but didn't like the look. It's not horrible, but not perfect either.

Two vets I finished. I tried making hair for them, but I'm on the fence about it. If I made a few more I'd almost have a boy band. :p

Servitors. I made them pretty basic, but they turned out well. If you ever use them how ratio of weapons to servo-arms do you use?

Such a great model. The book is from the Term librarian. It seemed to fit the model better. The text is from the paint pen. (Prismacolor Premier pens if your are interested.)

I've had this old metal model for years and years. I bought him when the dinosaurs roamed the earth just because he looked cool. so I tossed some paint on him and was really happy with the result.

The back of his robe turned out good. I stopped off at one of the GW stores and they taught me some easy techniques.

So that's it guys. My current projects include deathwing knights. I'm not crazy about the maces and wouldn't mind changing them to halberds or claymores. anyone else working on something like that?

Those are some good looking models man! May I offer a suggestion though? Instead of free handing all that stuff, why not use decals? Avon Rekaes did a great little custom decal walkthrough awhile ago. I used it and my results turned out better than expected.

This is my Belial. I really liked the sword and proxy it as either the SOS of a TH, depending on his other arm.

Another view. The wings are from a old High Elf command sprue. The massive wings on most of the GW models look good, but they seem a little too cartoony for me. I think these look alot better.

First off I like the white armor. I know that it's not exactly in line with the DA, but I think it just looks better. The off white has a dirty look, which doesn't appeal to me.

 

I had thought about replacing his axe after the addition of power weapon types with 6th edition, but couldn't bear changing it, so decided to proxy it as a Thunderhammer. I could see the massive thing hitting like one.

 

I tried to go for the unkempt Amish look for his hair. Kind of like Lancelot in the old 80's movie Excalibur. Hopefully it was successful.

Of course I have homemade fluff for each of them. My nerdy side refuses to not allow me to make a IC and NOT have fluff. Damn it! *shakes fist*
