Vivster
How would i paint orange space marines using the new gw orange on a white undercoat with a spraygun since i tried it on a black undercoat and the results were not that great. So do i have to preshad the mini or something before i paint it. I am thinking of spraying jokaero orange then troll slayer orange directly over that. Then possibly shade the recesses with fuegan orange or a sepia wash and paint troll slayer orange over any mistakes. Then i would Edge highlight with Fire dragon bright and perhaps a glaze of lamenters yellow? How does that sound, anyone with any pics or success with the new paintsz? Thanks :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273501-orange-space-marines/ Share on other sites
Lephisto
I'm not an expert on painting but what i would do is, for light colors like Orange I would have used a white undercoat then I will would apply the lightest orange paint color on and then shade the rest using darker colors. If I was doing it I would do a white undercoat then a coat of the orange you want. Then I would go over it with agrax earthquake wash and then dry brush it with a darker orange. Kurgan the Lurker
I'd link you to the Cult of Orange but with the BLOGs currently down I can't do that. That said, here is a thread that could help you: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/118074-painting-orange Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273501-orange-space-marines/#findComment-3339338 Share on other sites
xmercx
I don't use an airbrush but I have been using the new gw and liking the results. I start with a white undercoat > mephiston red > nuln oil > wild rider red > troll slayer orange > and finally fire dragon bright. I use thin coats and just try and leave a little of the prior color as I build up to the brighter orange. pics can be found here http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/256750-mercs-madness/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273501-orange-space-marines/#findComment-3339378 Share on other sites
Vivster
Thanks guys for the quick advice, the problem is that i need it to work on tanks as well without getting blotchy strange results. And i dont want to be a layering up a land raider for quite some time Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273501-orange-space-marines/#findComment-3339432 Share on other sites
Kurgan the Lurker
You could find a Krylon spray (or equivalent if you aren't in the US) in orange and just prime it orange and build up quickly from there with a tank brush. xmercx
with how thin you get the paints to air brush you will likely need to do a few coats of each color if you are only using two or use more shades to build up the base. The new gw colors are better then they have been in the past but the oranges and yellows still are not going to be one coat coverage. If you want the orange to be more red start with a more reddish color or a darker orange (wild rider) before your orange. If you want it to be more yellow or a lighter orange go with something with more yellow in it (maybe yriel yellow). follow that up with the coat (or three) of your target orange Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273501-orange-space-marines/#findComment-3339636 Share on other sites
