Betrayer - WIP Kharn

I've been reading Betrayer and was inspired to build a Heresy-era Khârn. I wanted him to be before the Nails had fully taken hold, before he was all "Kill! Maim! Burn!".
The pauldrons are just stuck on with blu-tac at the moment. I'm waiting on a couple of FW World Eater ones so I don't know if I'll just change one or both of them. The chainaxe haft has been extended using metal rod and milliput. I'm resisting adding any more chains or skulls as I want him to retain some semblance to a loyalist Marine.

I've just noticed that in the pics he looks like he's tripping over the Mk.III helm. I might have to reposition him slightly..................

Re-positioned Khârn so he's more upright. I think he loses some of the aggressiveness though - maybe it'll grow on me.

Looking good so far yes.gif

If you're worried about the loss of him looking aggressive then you could always add that until you start painting. Another alternative is that you could get some green stuff and model some viscera and gore to hang off the axe.

I wanted to stay away from things like fabric and oaths of moment as I feel that the WE would not adorn their armour with things like that. I'll give the idea of glueing the chains at a angle - I'll probably end up with more on my fingers, but I'll give it a go :D

Oh, I plan to paint him covered in plenty of blood and gore ;)

Now it looks bad*ss.  And you are right, Oath of moment dont really fit in with the WE. I think they are more the type of guys who shout their oaths in the heat of the battle.

Or just scream in rage and hate as the Nails take hold :D

Blood guts and gore. Definitely the way to go with Khârn

Yeah that's fine, oaths are not really appropriate. The suggestion of the gore droplets would look great if done well.

Well didn't the WE cut their palms and smear the blood onto their helmet faceplates, in one of the battles in the third HH book?

That could look cool. Great model though, much better now he isn't falling over. Haha. ;)

I know in the Betrayer novel, one of the humans (can't remember her name right now, but she's the ships Captain) bears a bloody hand print from one of the WE's on her uniform as a badge of honour.

Waiting on the pauldrons to arrive - double Bank Holiday over Easter weekend means that the postal service is completely up the creek!

Nice go on Khârn so far, the more "upright" version does not look as agressive as your first one, but still screams "anger" in my mind ;-)

Some (or more) blood splatters are a must with a WE Captain, so you should def go for it !

Bloody hand print would be a nice touch, but is not "necessary". Lotara Sarin (the human Cpt of the Conqueror) wears a bloody hand print (Khârn's by the way) on her white uniform as a mark of honor granted by Angrom himself, but as far as I remember non of the "regular" legionaries...(but I am not 100% on this !).

But the WE had some kind of  rite, where they where cutting themself and smeared their helmets with the blood, so you could do something similar with him...

Cheers,

AT

Pauldrons arrived today biggrin.png Khârn is looking decidedly more like a captain of the World Eaters rather than a generic Marine now.

Also glued the chains at more of a flowing angle in order to give them some movement.

He is looking badass. When's the paint gonna start flowing?

I'm using a few days leave next week to sort out bits and pieces around the house and garden. Khârn may get painted during that week along with a few other models currently waiting for application of paint :D

Looking great. The penultimate shot looks very fluid and menacing.

Cheers! Menacing is good - for a World Eater anyway :D

Right, managed to get him undercoated yesterday and thankfully, didn't get as much on me as expected due tot he windy conditions. Just waiting for the wash of Nuln Oil to dry. The wash is to add some depth and shading before I start building up the colour of the armour to a dirty white. I'm thinking of using Ulthuan Greay as a base colour and adding a little skull white for each coat until I get a nice, dirty looking white.

Very nice modelling can't wait to see the finished product. Love the chains. My one complaint would be that without the right helmet he just doesn't feel Khârn.

I wanted to avoid the bunny-ears as I feel that they are post-heresy and more Khorne Berzerker than World Eater. In Betrayer, Khârn is described as having a crest on his helmet much like other Captains/Centurions from other Legions. The chains, the axe and the plasma pistol are all there to link my version of Khârn with the GW Berzerker version.

Maybe he will feel like Khârn after he's got some more paint on him msn-wink.gif
