Betrayer - WIP Kharn

Been painting Khârn this evening. I'm pretty happy with how the white of the armour has turned out, but I'm not sure whether to lighten the blue or not. I need to finish the detailing and add some blood and gore to the model biggrin.png

I'm also trying to decide what colour to paint the Mk.III helm on the base. I was thinking of one of the loyalist legions from Istvaan - maybe a Salamander or Raven Guard.

I decided to paint the Mk.III helm green and have it represent a fallen Salamander who's innards now decorate Khârn, the base and everything else within the vicinity msn-wink.gif

Still one or two bits to finish off, but I'm pretty pleased on how he's turned out so far.

Quite the project...  I still can't wrap me mind around Khârn in the white armor.

A couple of aspects that really detract from the piece IMO:

1) the metallics look a bit flat to me, they need a some highlighting and/or a wash or three.

2) as much as I admire your courage for attempting the blood splatter, the splatter patterns seem out of place and out of scale, (e.g. the splatter areas are not consistent with arterial spray and the splattering needs to be much finer to match the scale of the model).  I hope that makes sense...

Still nice overall.

Khârn was a World Eater and their armour - pre-heresy - was white and blue. As Khârn was the Captain of the 8th assault company, then his armour would be white and blue.

The metallics are one of the things I need to finish off - he's still WIP progress at the moment.

The blood and gore may be a bit over the top, but he wields a chainaxe and isn't afraid of beating enemies to death with his fists. Plus, it would not all be arterial spray - Khârn would hack and slash his way through enemies so blood would be coming from all directions, from various body parts.

I like him. I think he looks like he has taken on quite a few Salamanders hence the amount of gore.

Cheers! I can't imagine a WE coming through a battle with pristine armour - leave that to the Emperors Children and Ultramarines ;)

Right, to finish him off, I need to add highlights to the metallics, finish the eye lenses (I changed them from red to green as you lost them against the blood splatter) and finish the plasma pistol.

Should hopefully have him done tonight.  :D

Stellar job, though I'm not a fan of the piraty breastplate. Not that such a detail does anything to stop this from being one of the best Pre-Heresy Khârn I've ever seen.

Muchas gracias! The breastplate is a Blood Angel one - the only Mk.IV one I had in my bitz box at the time :) I removed the blood drop from the bottom part, but decided to leave the skull in place as a bit of decoration :D

Looks brutal but....the blood is too light unless the victims blood only came from arteries and he hit no veins. Have you ever experimented with a toothbrush with a little paint on?

Yep - that's how I got the paint splatter on the armour.

And all over my fingers.

And my desk.

And my laptop screen...............

When the pics were taken, the blood was still wet. It has darkened up slightly as it dried and I've also experimented by mixing different washes into the Tamiya clear red I used.

Once I've finished off the Historicals I've been doing recently, I have a Lucius conversion I plan to get painted next.
