Excessus
I've been searching for the "perfect" purple to paint my pre-heresy Alpha Legionnaires in, but have come up short every single time! I just can't get a nice dark purple-blueish colour that I'm happy with. I've been seeing some pics on the net, but I don't really know what GW colours to use. I'm trying to get the colour from the front page on "Legion". Anyone have any suggestions? Jim AMM realgenius
Have you tried starting with blue and doing a purple wash? I believe the GW recipe for Alpha Legion is: Base: Macgragge Blue Wash: Druchii Violet Line: Kabalite Green Line Highlight: Moot Green Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273618-the-other-purple/#findComment-3341050 Share on other sites
Excessus
Yeah, I've tried that. It didn't come out as I wished it would really. I would love to have a more vibrant purple like this: http://www.coolminiornot.com/323296?browseid=4849524 ...but I fear that it involves other brands of colours than GWs (that I know nothing about) and quite a lot of mixing...and obviously my attempts won't be nearly as well-painted as that one either... Grotsmasha
My suggestion would be to create your own wash from GW's darkest purple (the name alludes me), to put over the blue. The reason for this is you'll get a heavier pigment making the purple more noticeable than the standard was. depthcharge12
Hey I just looked at something on ADB's site and found a scheme you might want to use. You could ask Aaron nicely and he might tell you how Alan paints his alphas ;) Scroll down: http://aarondembskibowden.wordpress.com/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273618-the-other-purple/#findComment-3344359 Share on other sites
Excessus
Yeah, I saw that post earlier. Somebody else posted it somewhere, and they look quite nice! More blue than purple though. But I assume that blue would be close to the "official" colouring of them though, since the guy is working on the next book(well, I assume) after all... I intend to make mine look battle damaged and pretty battered, Alpha Legion is about functionality before bling, after all...scouring the net for tutorials on how to do this atm... Daemon2027
That was me over at serpants lair. It's hard to tell due to the dark pics, but I think there is a hint of turquoise. Oh I sent a message to wicked carrot to find out how he painted the model youngster. Will let you know what he says. Excessus
Youngster? :D Thank you for that, though I fear the paint information will be a bit outdated by now. Nevertheless it will be interesting to hear it! :) Hydra dominatus fellow operative! ...maybe I should just wait and see when they are released from FW so I don't have to repaint them all... Daemon2027
Weird ipad predictive shenanigans going on there! I have been thinking the same, I may just stockpile bits and wait a few years before committing to a scheme, least then I will be happy with the expensive pile of resin on my shelf!
