IK Viper
the power saws that you move to within 6 inches of the caster as if you DS, does this mean you place a marker and scatter the unit to determine its final position and then obey the movement limitations of DS, or does this just mean that you must assume the bunch formation and can only run or shoot but not assault but do not scatter? If you can simply place them on the board within 6 inches, has any one considered summoning a purgation sqaud with 4 Incinorators to deal with annoying blob squads... lol (thats why I am interested in this power) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273623-the-summoning-book-power/ Share on other sites

IK Viper
ok thanks, guess that means taking a locator beacon on the libby. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273623-the-summoning-book-power/#findComment-3346126 Share on other sites
ZayWolf
ive had questions about this also, i understand the above mentioned but the rules for the power say "AS IF DEEPSTRIKING" not "THEY DEEPSTRIKE USING NORMAL RULES" my question pretty much is would a locator beacon even effect a unit moving like that??? thade
Occam's razor, my man. The conclusion that requires the fewest and simplest assumptions is the right one. It says "as if Deep Striking", so treat it as if it's Deep Striking, letter for letter. That means Locator Beacons and Teleport Homers and Warpquake and all of that would impact it. "Thade, if they meant that, why didn't they just say Deep Striking instead of throwing 'as if' on there?" We can commiserate all day about just how convoluted these rules can be at times, but simplicity is still the way to go. When you assume that they meant to distinguish it by putting 'as if' in there, you now have a base assumption that leads you to further assumptions...which is exactly what Occam's razor is intended to combat. Talk it out with your gaming buddies. Show them the rules, explain what you think, maybe link them to this discussion here (or the many ones like it on this very topic on this very board) and see how they all feel about it. At the end of the day, they're the ones you're going to play with. Personally I'd let the teleport homer on the libby work for the Summoning; and also Warpquake and alllied/enemy servo-skulls, etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273623-the-summoning-book-power/#findComment-3346343 Share on other sites

A locator Beacon works for The Summoning, while a Teleport Homer doesn't (Mystics work as well). Luckily, we can now purchase a LB on our Storm Ravens.
