Terminal Maxocity
Hello, Brothers. I just finished reading Fallen Angels and am wondering what book I should read next for Dark Angels. I bought Angels of Darkness but am afraid that it will jump too far ahead and that I will miss something. I have the rest of the Horus Heresy novels but am unable to read them until the end of the month since I had to ship them separately when I moved back to the States a few days ago, so I am looking for something to hold me over while at the same time not giving anything away! Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273690-dark-angels-reading-list/ Share on other sites
Steel Company
If anything the HH books kind of invalidate Angels of Darkness, since it is a character study of a member of the Fallen... Though I am a proud Son of the Lion, I still like to think that he was waiting till the end to declare his side. Another good book is The Purging of Kadillus, it gives you a feel of how the Death Wing, Raven Wing and Scouts all work together. Thanks! All the DA novels by Gav Thorpe follow their own storyline, so you can read them without fear of HH spoilers (you might even have a bit of a surprise in your hands if you read those before Savage Weapons/The Lion!). Chronologically, Purging of Kadillus is in-between Angels of Darkness (yes, I meant that literally), but you can read either in any order you want without losing too much. If you're a hardcore reader, read the tale of Astelan bits from AoD first, then Purging, then the tale of Boreas for full storyline fidelity. Ravenwing is after the events of all those. The Book of the Lion contains several apocryphal stories, which are still good reads and do a good show of the 1st Legion's mindset. Also, comics. Like the anti-heroic aspects of the 1st Legion? Read everything by CZ Dunn in the BL e-shop. You'll want to field a Cypher model and start your Fallen warband after that! Terminal Maxocity
Outstanding info, Azrael! Thanks for the help. Since Steel and you both recommended Purging of Kadillus, I just picked that one up on the iPad. Makes traveling as a DA reader much easier! WatchCaptainAzrael
Regardless of what you read, remember that the Dark Angel fandom is like having a friend with an :cuss streak. Some days you're having the time of your life, some days you just want to punch his lights out. ... your pic is remarkably blue, frater... I admit, I haven't been able to play since I joined the army, and back in those foolish days (when I joined the forums here), I was an adherent to the Codex Astartes. Go read Call of the Lion (in Tales of Heresy) and find out why Astelan gets sent to Caliban. Then after reading the two Horus Heresy DA books go read Savage Weapons (in Age of Darkness). Then after ALL that, go read The Lion (in The Primarchs). Once you've done that, you won't think he waited till the end to declare his side. As to the OP. WatchCaptainAzrael hit the nail on the head. Call of the Lion -> Purging of Kadillus -> Angels of Darkness -> Ravenwing. WatchCaptainAzrael
My soul doth quiver in joy to see a frater so zealous to defend the Lion's loyalty! But... we still don't know the full story. Gav did mention in an interview they'd "keep us guessing". WatchCaptainAzrael
Alas, 'tis the burden of the Sons of the Lion to forever suffer the Empyrean's cry of sin... And 'tis our pride to forever turn our back to it. I already had the pleasure of reading all the HH up to Fallen Angels, and you're right, Elphilio, the Astelan piece was really cool to know! My flight now is delayed so ill have plenty of time to keep reading Purging haha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/273690-dark-angels-reading-list/#findComment-3343123 Share on other sites
