Army construction challenge

So I want to re-jig my GK for 6th edition, and am looking for some help. Ideally I'd like the contents of the army to fit the display board I spent a bucket load of time and money on. 

 

So, what is the best army you can make with the following: 

 

1 x Inquisitor w/power sword

6 x henchmen (any type)

15 x power amour grey knights (any weapon option)

5 terminators/paladins/terminator characters (any weapon or character option)

 

Points can be 750, 1000, 1250 or 1500, so long as all the spots are taken.

 

My best efforts:

 

750 points;

Psyker inquisitor (3 skulls)

Henchmen (2 warriors, mystic)

5 paladins (2 psycannons, 1 stave)

10 strikers (2 psycannons)

5 strikers (1 psycannon)

I like this list because it fits the allies matrix perfectly.

 

1000 points:

Psyker inquisitor (2 skulls)

Henchmen (1 dca, 1 mystic, 1 warrior)

Vindicare 

 

5 paladins (2 psycannons, 1 stave, psybolts)

10 strikers (2 psycannons, 1 stave, psybolts)

5 strikers (1 psycannon, 1 halberd, psybolts)

Same basic list, just with a little extra firepower.

 

Is it even possible to make a semi decent list with these restrictions?

Wow. Honestly ... I don't think it can be done. You have no actual options, and you're lacking in any kind of flyer defense, mobility, and resilience. There's no variety to your potential army lists.

 

Essentially, all you can do is what you have already done: just plunk every model you own on the table and call it a day.

 

You'll need to upgrade your collection rather significantly if you want to do anything different.

The constraints above don't represent my entire collection, I just want to make a small list that uses the display board I made. From there (we usually play 1500pts) I can add armour (such as a couple of raiders so as to made a hard counter vs the heldrake lists I see all the time), or allies (I have IG and SW).

As for flyers, the 1k list has 5 psycannons, 2 mastercrafted, and 2 that will likely have prescience cast on them as often as possible. I'm not sure about your local meta, but how many flyers are you seeing at 1000 points?

I do see people plop down a pair of flyrants at 1000 pts. Tyranids may suck overall, but at a mere 1000 pts, those 2 FMCs are asymmetrically potent.

 

The greater point is: you are restricting your army list at 1000 pts or less to a specific list of models. All of which fit comfortably into 750 pts as it is. Whether or not your build is "good" is almost beside the point. Like I said earlier, by restricting your model selection, there is no army list to build for you. Just put 'em all on the table and hope for the best. You've left yourself no other options.
