With the B&C's new look firmly established it's become time to share my miniatures, 40k thoughts and tutorials (in the relevant sections of course) on a basis that is more than just 'sporadic'. So the journey begins. Despite Ultramarines being one of the most recognisable armies in the 40k universe I've never actually tackled one before. I decided that this needed to change. Aside from chapter iconography this guy is finished.

He is a real beauty. How long have you been painting for? Also, what's up next? ;)

Thanks :D Been painting for many years but only started painting more than 1 model a month in the last year or so. I have several space marines on the workbench at the moment, including Balthazar and the librarian from dark vengeance, a chaos aspiring champion and a 3rd edition assault marine sergeant that eventually came out of the original blister pack this afternoon after much deliberation (wanted to keep it in the blister but also desperately wanted to paint him!) there'll be a wip thread up tomorrow as most of these are basecoated now :D

Are daemons allowed on this forum? seen a few knocking around so I'll drop these here. If not I'll banish them into the warp.

Well, the blood angel sergeant got postponed for a while as I'm working on a better base for him, but in the meantime, here's Company Master Balthasar completed.

Thanks :D the sword on Balthasar is freehand, although I do admire a lot of stuff thats been done with an airbrush and agree that it's much faster, I wouldn't use it for anything more than undercoating or a quick zenithal highlight on rank and file troops. Anything else feels a little like 'cheating' to me.

That's a nice crisp black on your LotD armour. Is there a blue-grey colour in those highlights? They look richer than highlights done with straigh grey colours usually do.

Love those plaguebearers, they're disgusting.

Thanks :D the black was done based on this tutorial by William Davies http://www.wiltrichs.com/tutorials/painting-black/

Although I think I used fenris grey or the fang for one of the steps, hence the slightly bluer shade
