Well for fun i decided to tally up al the stuff i have for my DIY salamander successor and put it out for a photo

 

5,650 points of grey death and many hours as well as dollars later.....

Silly thing is using a double force org chart its a prefectly legit army list, even though i never planned it that way....

 

3 HQs

4 troops

6 elites

4 heavies

6 fast attack

and 3 attached super heavies

Well thats the difference between spending 1K which i dont have to spend and $30 for some aeronautica models and another $20 for the correct size flyer bases. :P im kinda glad i dint but them since i like the storm eagle model better.

A few close ups would be nice, but they look good as an army too. 

 

I like your idea of using little thunderhawks. I mean, most things for them are measured from the base, and any disadvantage in terms of gaming is going to be on your side of things not the opponents. Plus it saves having a huge model on the table that will probably just fall over xD 

 

These Thunderhawks are small, but  those thunderhawks are far away. 

Genius.

Funny you should mention that, it was our running joke as well.
