corlinjewell Posted April 11, 2013 Share Posted April 11, 2013 Hello everyone, I apologize if this thread should be somewhere else (but its not a list review and kinda deals with tactics), but I am curious on what to buy next in my army and what unpainted stuff I have should be my priority. First up, what I have painted: Captain-Relic Blade-Artificer Armor-Storm Shield-Can be equipped with jump pack Troops: Tactical Squad-Combi-Flamer-Flamer-Missile Launcher Tactical Squad-Combi-Melta-Meltagun-Missile Launcher Scout Squad-Combi-melta-Meltabombs-4 Shotguns (God how I wish I would've made them with bolters now) Fast Attack:Landspeeder Storm-Multi-melta-Magnetized to equip a heavy bolter Heavy Support: Predator (Can be used as dakka/combi with magnets) What I own but haven't painted Techmarine/MOTF boxed set (got it for cheap from a buddy)5 Scouts w/Bolters and Heavy Bolter Rhino5 Assault Marines So there it is, what do you think I am severely lacking and need immediately? Giga Posted April 11, 2013 Share Posted April 11, 2013 You've got no anti-flier. A stormraven and/or an aegis defense line with quad-gun would add a lot to your army, imho. You could proxy your scouts as sniper scouts with camo cloaks, so that with aegis defense line they'd have constant 2+ cover saves and be pretty good objective campers. The stormraven would allow you to drop off a tactical squad into enemy midfield + would offer an assault transport to deliver your expensive captain into combat. Another good idea is to convert that assault squad into a command squad or a sternguard unit. Assault marines aren't really any good. Also, paint up that rhino. Realistically speaking, and now that you have an ADL, I would paint the TFC and the ADL, and for purchases I would either buy another Predator or Vindicator, or a librarian. Azash Posted April 16, 2013 Share Posted April 16, 2013 Since you have 5 Bolter/H. Bolter scouts and 5 Shotgun scouts a Storm Raven would not be a bad idea. Scouts can bail out while the storm raven is still in its flight mode. If they scatter who cares they auto pass dangerous terrain tests. Great to zoom on the board drop off a mid field gun squad that can hold an objective and shoot. You could use all your scouts as one squad. Storm Raven would give you list flexibility to haul marines it as well if you wanted to go that route. I have found it's better to have marines defending the backfield though. Well, don't I feel sheepish. I never realized that, since when I do use Scouts, they're snipers and you know, never move. At all. Slap an Ironclad on the back at the Raven, because it too has MTC and can survive a mid-air drop. So, you guys are in agreement that a Storm Raven would do more for me than a Storm Talon? For what you have? A Raven would probably be better, yes, since you can use it to give another squad a little mobility. Speaking to Giga's point regarding AA threat, the Talon gives you skyfire for cheaper than a Raven does. To be brutally honest, a Raven and a Talon working in tandem seem on paper at least to be absolutely awesome. The Talon can Escort the Raven, and can be positioned so that the Talon is an intervening model against enemy AAA thus providing non-Jinking cover saves for the Raven (or more likely forcing Interceptor shots at the cheaper Talon instead). Originally, the idea was for him to roll with the assault guys when I got them done, but based on the repeated negative views about them, I will probably go with the raven (don't worry, his jump pack was magnetized) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
